Estimating the irradiance spectrum from measurements in a limited number of spectral bands

open access: yes, 2006
Accurate measurement and characterisation of fluctuations in the irradiance environment is important for many areas of optical remote sensing. This paper describes a method of estimating spectral irradiance over the region 400 – 1000 nm from the radiance

Radiative Cooling by Green(er) Solvents‐Upcycled Polyvinyl Chloride From Drug Blisters Waste

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores upcycling poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) from used pharmaceutical blisters into sustainable radiative cooling materials. Using solvent separation and membrane fabrication, PVC was converted into white membranes paired with aluminum foil.

Secular Change in Equivalent Width of C 5380, 1978-1990 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The equivalent width of the high excitation photospheric line of C 5380A has been measured 3 to 4 times monthly in the solar irradiance spectrum since 1978.

EUV Irradiance Inputs to Thermospheric Density Models: Open Issues and Path Forward

open access: yes, 2018
One of the objectives of the NASA LWS Institute on Nowcasting of Atmospheric Drag for LEO Spacecraft was to investigate whether and how to increase the accuracy of atmospheric drag models by improving the quality of the solar forcing inputs, namely ...

Multilevel Optical Programming of Intrinsic Vacancies in Solution‐Processed MoS2 Films for Retinomorphic Color Differentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed MoS2 films with intrinsic sulfur‐vacancy traps are used to integrate light sensing and memory in a simple two‐terminal pixel. Successive optical pulses program persistent, multilevel conductance states, while oxygen exposure enables rapid erasure.

Model-Free Cooperative Control for Volt-Var Optimization in Power Distribution Systems

open access: yesEnergies
Power distribution systems are witnessing a growing deployment of distributed, inverter-based renewable resources such as solar generation. This poses certain challenges such as rapid voltage fluctuations due to the intermittent nature of renewables ...

Solar Cycle Modulation of Total Irradiance: an Empirical Model from 1874 to 1988 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Evidence acquired during the past decade indicates that over time scales of the solar cycle, enhanced emission from bright solar faculae cause significant variations in the sun's total irradiance even though, on shorter time scales, the most pronounced ...

Numerical Modeling of Photothermal Self‐Excited Composite Oscillators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We present a numerical framework for simulating photothermal self‐excited oscillations. The driving mechanism is elucidated by highlighting the roles of inertia and overshoot, as well as the phase lag between the thermal moment and the oscillation angle, which together construct the feedback loop between the system state and the environmental stimulus.

Solar Irradiance Observed from PVO and Inferred Solar Rotation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Solar irradiance in the extreme ultraviolet flux (EUV) has been monitored for 11 years by the Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO). Since the experiment moves around the Sun with the orbital rate of Venus rather than that of Earth, the measurement gives us a ...

Combined analysis of solar neutrino and solar irradiance data: further evidence for variability of the solar neutrino flux and its implications concerning the solar core

open access: yes, 2008
A search for any particular feature in any single solar neutrino dataset is unlikely to establish variability of the solar neutrino flux since the count rates are very low.
