Effect of Electron Beam Irradiation on Survival of Brucella spp. in Traditional Ice Cream [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Irradiation is a new technology which can be used for foods especially for the ones which common methods such as thermal method cannot be applied. Traditional ice cream samples were purchased from a local market.

Electronic and atomic kinetics in solids irradiated with free-electron lasers or swift-heavy ions

open access: yes, 2015
In this brief review we discuss the transient processes in solids under irradiation with femtosecond X-ray free-electron-laser (FEL) pulses and swift-heavy ions (SHI).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Real-Time Dose Monitoring via Non-Destructive Charge Measurement of Laser-Driven Electrons for Medical Applications

open access: yesInstruments
Laser-accelerated electron beams, in the so-called Very High-Energy Electron (VHEE) energy range, are of great interest for biomedical applications.

Exploring the conditions required to form giant planets via gravitational instability in massive protoplanetary discs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We carry out global three-dimensional radiation hydrodynamical simulations of self-gravitating accretion discs to determine if, and under what conditions, a disc may fragment to form giant planets.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Sulfonated Graphene Oxide Doped Imidazolium-Functionalized PVDF Ion Exchange Membrane with Enhanced Ion Conductivity

open access: yesMembranes
A novel membrane was synthesized in this work by grafting 1-vinyl-3-ethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([C2VIm][BF4]) onto a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) backbone, followed by the introduction of a sulfonated graphene oxide (SGO) dispersion into the ...

Radiation-induced lung damage promotes breast cancer lung-metastasis through CXCR4 signaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Radiotherapy is a mainstay in the postoperative treatment of breast cancer as it reduces the risks of local recurrence and mortality after both conservative surgery and mastectomy.

Over-irradiation

open access: yesThe Breast, 2017
Decreasing the burden of radiation therapy (RT) for breast cancer includes, next to complete omission, several ways to tailor the extent of RT. Possible options for this include lowering of the total dose, such as selective omission of the boost, hypofractionated RT to shorten the duration of treatment, the selective introduction of partial breast ...
