Shapiro and parametric resonances in coupled Josephson junctions

open access: yes, 2012
The effect of microwave irradiation on the phase dynamics of intrinsic Josephson junctions in high temperature superconductors is investigated. We compare the current-voltage characteristics for a stack of coupled Josephson junctions under external ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Cross-relaxation and temporal dynamics of lasing at 2 μm in thulium-doped ceramic material

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering
We report the characterization of the pump absorption and emission dynamic properties of a $\mathrm{Tm}:{\mathrm{Lu}}_2{\mathrm{O}}_3$ ceramic lasing medium using a three-mirror folded laser cavity.

Searching for wormholes with gravitational wave scattering

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2023
We propose using the gravitational wave scattering off spherical wormholes to search for their existence. We carefully calculate the reflected and transmitted waveforms with time-independent scattering theory.

Effects of electron beam irradiation pretreatment on the structure and enzymatic efficiency of Phragmites australis lignocelluloses with different moisture contents

open access: yesFushe yanjiu yu fushe gongyi xuebao, 2023
The study investigated the chemical composition, supramolecular structures, particle size distribution, and enzymatic efficiency of Phragmites australis lignocelluloses (PALs) with different moisture contents and treatment with 5 MeV electron beam ...

Stress dependence of the critical currents in neutron irradiated (RE)BCO coated conductors

open access: yes, 2013
The application of HTS coated conductors in future fusion or accelerator magnets is currently of increasing interest. High Lorentz forces and therefore high hoop stresses act on the conductors in large coils.

Measuring the response of human head and neck squamous cell carcinoma to irradiation in a microfluidic model allowing customized therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Radiotherapy is the standard treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), however, radioresistance remains a major clinical problem despite significant improvements in treatment protocols. Therapeutic outcome could potentially be improved

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Radiation mutagenesis of Bacillus velezensis and its antibacterial effect on Colletotrichum gloeosporioides

open access: yesFushe yanjiu yu fushe gongyi xuebao, 2023
We used 60Co-γ ray and electron beam irradiation to mutate Bacillus velezensis to breed genetically stable mutant strains. The mutant strains were screened and re-screened by plate confrontation and the four-point method to study their antibacterial ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
