Detailed definition of temperature for nonequilibrium thermodynamics: Essential for information and quantum thermodynamics

open access: yesAIP Advances
The detailed definition of temperature has been the fundamental subject for the nonequilibrium thermodynamic theory essentially for information and quantum thermodynamic theories.

Non-quasistatic response coefficients and dissipated availability for macroscopic thermodynamic systems

open access: yesJournal of Physics Communications, 2023
The characterization of finite-time thermodynamic processes is of crucial importance for extending equilibrium thermodynamics to nonequilibrium thermodynamics.

How Flexible Is the Concept of Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium?

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
It has been demonstrated by using generalized phenomenological irreversible thermodynamic theory (GPITT) that by replacing the conventional composition variables {xk} by the quantum level composition variables {x˜k,j} corresponding to the nonequilibrium ...

Non-equilibrium critical behavior : An extended irreversible thermodynamics approach

open access: yes, 2009
Critical phenomena in non-equilibrium systems have been studied by means of a wide variety of theoretical and experimental approaches. Mode-coupling, renormalization group, complex Lie algebras and diagrammatic techniques are some of the usual ...

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

From local force-flux relationships to internal dissipations and their impact on heat engine performance: The illustrative case of a thermoelectric generator

open access: yes, 2013
We present an in-depth analysis of the sometimes understated role of the principle of energy conservation in linear irreversible thermodynamics. Our case study is that of a thermoelectric generator (TEG), which is a heat engine of choice in irreversible ...

Relaxation dominated cosmological expansion [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The behavior near the singularity of an isotropic, homogeneous cosmological model with a viscous fluid source is investigated. This turns out to be a relaxation dominated regime.

A New Threshold Switching Device With Tunable Negative Differential Resistance Based on ErMnO3 Polymorphs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymorph engineering in ErMnO3 enables low‐voltage, forming‐free threshold switching with tunable negative differential resistance. Conducting orthorhombic regions embedded in an insulating hexagonal matrix provide controlled Joule‐heating‐enhanced Poole–Frenkel transport. The hexagonal phase prevents excessive heating and breakdown.

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Thermodynamics of irreversible adsorption of water vapours by montmorillonite

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2017
The adsorption–desorption of water vapours on swelling layer silicate is considered in the framework of the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Frenkel-Halsey-Hill (FHH) formalisms.
