Regional differences of myocardial infarct development and ischemic preconditioning
Basic Research in Cardiology, 2004The spatial and temporal development of myocardial infarction depends on the area at risk (AAR), the severity and duration of blood flow reduction (energy supply) as well as on heart rate and regional wall function (energy demand). Both supply and demand can vary within the AAR of a given heart, potentially resulting in differences in infarct ...

Alternatives for Myocardial Protection: Adenosine‐Enhanced Ischemic Preconditioninga
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1999Abstract: Intrinsic to the development of new myoprotective protocols for use in cardiac surgery are the requirements of new protocols to be equal to or better than conventional cardioplegia in providing for enhanced postischemic functional recovery and decreased myocardial infarct size.

Myocardial protection with postconditioning is not enhanced by ischemic preconditioning
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2004Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) has been used in off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery (OPCAB) to reduce potential injury secondary to ligation of the target vessel. Previous studies have shown that a brief period of repetitive coronary occlusion applied at the onset of reperfusion, postconditioning (postcon), attenuates myocardial injury.

[Ischemic preconditioning: concept of endogenous myocardial protection].
Archives des maladies du coeur et des vaisseaux, 1995Preconditioning is a temporary tolerance to ischaemia acquired by the myocardium after a short period of ischaemia. It results in the limitation of the infarct size induced by prolonged coronary occlusion. The mechanism of this cytoprotection remains poorly understood.

[Ischemic preconditioning and metabolism of myocardial adrenaline].
Kardiologiia, 2010We implanted under urethane narcosis microdialysis probes into myocardium of Wistar rats. In experimental group we used ischemic preconditioning. After this left descending coronary artery was occluded for 60 minutes and then reperfused for 60 min. In control group prolonged occlusion was preceded by 30 min of rest.

Non Ischemic Myocardial Preconditioning by Tachycardia and Exercise
2003Myocardial preconditioning can be induced not only by ischemia but also by physiological stimuli like tachycardia and exercise. We studied in dogs the preconditioning effect of tachycardia. Five brief periods of tachycardia prior to occluding a coronary artery followed by reperfusion, reduced the infarct size by about 50%.
