Limitation of infarct size by myocardial ischemic preconditioning

Basic Research in Cardiology, 1996
Myocardial ischemic preconditioning (IP) has caught the attention and imagination of researchers throughout the world (7). And for good reason: the magnitude of protection against ischemic injury conferred by IP is tremendous, far surpassing that offered by past pharmacological therapies. Although the original description of IP focused on limitation of

Myocardial Serotonin during Ischemia under Conditions of Ischemic Preconditioning

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2014
We studied the dynamics of interstitial serotonin during local myocardial ischemia under conditions of ischemic preconditioning in Wistar rats. Ischemic preconditioning increased serotonin content in the dialysate (p=0.003). During 30-min ischemia, ischemic preconditioning delayed serotonin increase just before the 20th min of ischemia.

Near-infrared monitoring of myocardial oxygenation during ischemic preconditioning

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2000
Ischemic preconditioning has been advocated as a method of cardioprotection for minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass. This study was performed to estimate the cardioprotective effect of ischemic preconditioning before ischemia by examining the changes in myocardial tissue oxygenation and also to examine whether adenosine triphosphate ...

[Nitric oxide and myocardial ischemic preconditioning].

Journal de la Societe de biologie, 2001
Preconditioning is an endogenous mechanism of cardioprotection that develops secondary to a brief ischemia and a dramatic reduction in infarct size is observed when the myocardium undergoes a subsequent and long period of ischemia after the induction of preconditioning.

Ischemic Preconditioning and Apoptosis in Myocardial Ischemia

2003
An emerging body of evidence has now been accumulated to indicate the existance of a highly organized type of cell death, apoptosis, in the pathogenesis of a variety of cardiovascular diseases (30, 84). This process of cell death is a fundamentally important biological process that involves cell proliferation and differentiation to control tissue and ...

Regional differences of myocardial infarct development and ischemic preconditioning

Basic Research in Cardiology, 2004
The spatial and temporal development of myocardial infarction depends on the area at risk (AAR), the severity and duration of blood flow reduction (energy supply) as well as on heart rate and regional wall function (energy demand). Both supply and demand can vary within the AAR of a given heart, potentially resulting in differences in infarct ...

Alternatives for Myocardial Protection: Adenosine‐Enhanced Ischemic Preconditioninga

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1999
Abstract: Intrinsic to the development of new myoprotective protocols for use in cardiac surgery are the requirements of new protocols to be equal to or better than conventional cardioplegia in providing for enhanced postischemic functional recovery and decreased myocardial infarct size.

Myocardial protection with postconditioning is not enhanced by ischemic preconditioning

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2004
Ischemic preconditioning (IPC) has been used in off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery (OPCAB) to reduce potential injury secondary to ligation of the target vessel. Previous studies have shown that a brief period of repetitive coronary occlusion applied at the onset of reperfusion, postconditioning (postcon), attenuates myocardial injury.

[Ischemic preconditioning: concept of endogenous myocardial protection].

Archives des maladies du coeur et des vaisseaux, 1995
Preconditioning is a temporary tolerance to ischaemia acquired by the myocardium after a short period of ischaemia. It results in the limitation of the infarct size induced by prolonged coronary occlusion. The mechanism of this cytoprotection remains poorly understood.

[Ischemic preconditioning and metabolism of myocardial adrenaline].

Kardiologiia, 2010
We implanted under urethane narcosis microdialysis probes into myocardium of Wistar rats. In experimental group we used ischemic preconditioning. After this left descending coronary artery was occluded for 60 minutes and then reperfused for 60 min. In control group prolonged occlusion was preceded by 30 min of rest.
