[Islets of Langerhans transplantation].
Nephrologie & therapeutique, 2007The objective of future therapy of type 1 diabetes is to prevent the development of the chronic complications of the disease, while reducing the constraints imposed by treatment and eliminating the risk of hypoglycaemia. In other words, the aim is to ensure automatic glycaemic control like the normal pancreas. We can then talk about a cure for diabetes.

Angiogenesis and Hemodynamics of Microvasculature of Transplanted Islets of Langerhans
Diabetes, 1989Transplantation of isolated islets of Langerhans is frequently followed by early loss of islet function. Because whether this is caused by insufficient vascularization or graft rejection is unknown, angiogenesis and microvascularization of islet grafts were studied in vivo by means of intravital microscopy.

Isolation of human and porcine islets of langerhans and islet transplantation in pigs
Journal of Surgical Research, 1974Abstract Using a modification of the collagenase digestion, Ficoll gradient separation technique, we isolated the islets of Langerhans from fresh human pancreata removed from braindead cadavers. Comparison of the tissue insulin/amylase ratios between whole pancreas and isolated material revealed a significant purification of islet from acinar tissue.

Abstract Twenty partially inbred German shepherd dogs were made diabetic by intravenous administration of streptozotocin (25 mg/kg) 1 and 3 days after partial pancreatectomy. Ten diabetic dogs received intraportal transplants of allogeneic islets of Langerhans isolated by collagenase digestion and Ficon gradient separation.

[Islet of Langerhans transplantation in humans].
Schweizerische medizinische Wochenschrift, 1993Islet of Langerhans transplantation is an alternative to whole pancreas transplantation for type I diabetic patients, in whom exogenous insulin therapy has not prevented the occurrence of systemic complications. Thanks to a new isolation technique of human islets, 45 patients have been transplanted worldwide since 1988, of whom only 7 have become ...

Islet of Langerhans Transplantation for the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes
Swiss Surgery, 2003Islet of Langerhans transplantation is gaining recognition as a therapy for type 1 diabetes. The procedure involves enzymatic digestion of the pancreatic tissue, purification of the islets from the exocrine tissue, infusion of the islets into the portal vein and implantation in the liver.

Transplantation of islets of Langerhans.
Archives of pathology, 1975Transplantation of insulin-secreting tissues is currently being evaluated as a possible method of treating diabetic patients. Isolation of islets of Langerhans from the rat pancreas is now routinely accomplished, and methods for islet isolation from the human pancreas are being explored. Transplantation of isolated islets into isologous rats is capable

[Islets of Langerhans grafts and pancreas transplantation].
La Revue du praticien, 1992In theory, transplantation of the islets of Langerhans is the method of choice for the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes. In actual fact, medical teams who have been working on this subject for about two decades have met with the problem of islet isolation, and for the time being this treatment cannot be considered effective.

[Focus on Islets of Langerhans transplantation].
Presse medicale (Paris, France : 1983), 2001There are two types of indications for Langerhans islets transplantation, patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus who have a functional kidney graft but who cannot be candidates for total pancreas transplantation, and soon, patients without renal failure who develop particularly uncontrollable diabetes mellitus.Several conditions are required for the ...

Transplantation of islets of Langerhans in diabetic rats.
Acta physiologica latino americana, 1978In the present work, homogeneous isolated pancreatic islet-cells were transplanted to diabetic rats with the aim of verifying if the transplanted tissue could survive and reduce the plasma glucose concentration on the alloxan-induced diabetic receptors. For the isolation of the pancreatic islets, pancreas was incubated in collagenase solution for about
