Postgerminative growth and lipid catabolism in oilseeds lacking the glyoxylate cycle [PDF]
The glyoxylate cycle is regarded as essential for postgerminative growth and seedling establishment in oilseed plants. We have identified two allelic Arabidopsis mutants, icl-1 and icl-2, which lack the glyoxylate cycle because of the absence of the key ...

DESM: portal for microbial knowledge exploration systems [PDF]
Microorganisms produce an enormous variety of chemical compounds. It is of general interest for mi-crobiology and biotechnology researchers to have means to explore information about molecular and genetic basis of functioning of different microor-ganisms

Caenorhabditis elegans has orthologs for most of the key enzymes involved in eukaryotic intermediary metabolism, suggesting that the major metabolic pathways are probably present in this species.

Separacenes A–D, Novel Polyene Polyols from the Marine Actinomycete, Streptomyces sp.
Separacenes A–D (1–4), novel polyene polyols, were isolated from Streptomyces sp. collected from the southern area of Jeju Island, Korea. The chemical structures of 1–4 were established by NMR, mass, UV, and IR spectroscopy as well as the modified Mosher’

A Structural Gene for Neurospora crassa Isocitrate Lyase [PDF]
SUMMARY: A purification procedure for Neurospora crassa isocitrate lyase (ICL) is described. Thirteen mutants at the acu-3 locus produced no detectable ICL activity either on sucrose as sole carbon source or in the presence of acetate. These mutants also produced little or no protein able to neutralize anti-ICL antibodies. Selection of revertants, able

Which microbial factors really are important in Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections? [PDF]
Over the last two decades, tens of millions of dollars have been invested in understanding virulence in the human pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. However, the top 'hits' obtained in a recent TnSeq analysis aimed at identifying those genes that are ...

Characterizing fruit ripening in plantain and Cavendish bananas: A proteomics approach [PDF]
The fruit physiology of banana cultivars other than Cavendish is poorly understood. To study the ripening process, samples were taken daily from plantain and Cavendish bananas and the ripening stages were determined. We present data from the green to the

Effect of glucose on isocitrate lyase in Phycomyces blakesleeanus [PDF]
Repression of the synthesis of isocitrate lyase by glucose and/or induction of the synthesis of isocitrate lyase by acetate in Phycomyces blakesleeanus were demonstrated. Both glycerol and ethanol failed to induce isocitrate lyase activity. Furthermore, glucose appeared to cause an in vivo catabolite inactivation of the derepressed enzyme.

Regulation of Isocitrate Lyase Gene Expression in Sunflower [PDF]
A cDNA sequence that encodes a portion of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) seedling isocitrate lyase was selected from a lambda gt11 cDNA library derived from sunflower seedling cotyledon poly(A)(+) messenger RNA. The library was screened for bacteriophage recombinants that expressed antigens which reacted with antisera directed against cotton seed ...

Transport of Proteins into Mitochondria [PDF]
The mitochondrial ADP/ATP carrier is an integral transmembrane protein of the inner membrane. It is synthesized on cytoplasmic ribosomes. Kinetic data suggested that this protein is transferred into mitochondria in a posttranslational manner.
