Nippon kagaku zassi, 1971 オイゲノールと塩酸アニリンを油浴の温度200°C以上に加熱すれば容易に脱アリル反応と脱メチル反応とが起こって,グアヤコールとカテコールとができ,このさい少量のフェノールをも生じる。 脱離したアリル基はアニリンにN-置換し,さらに複雑な転位反応ののち,p-プロピルアニリンを生じ,脱メチルによって生じたメチル基はアニリンおよびp-プロピルアニリンにN-置換を起こす。 イソオイゲノールもまったく同様の反応を起こすが,オイゲノールよりもはるかに反応性に富む。 これらの反応は生体内および製造加工中におけるプロピルベンゼン系フェノールエーテル類の分解反応の一つのモデルともなる。
