The General Anesthetic Isoflurane Bilaterally Modulates Neuronal Excitability

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Volatile anesthetics induce hyperactivity during induction while producing anesthesia at higher concentrations. They also bidirectionally modulate many neuronal functions. However, the neuronal mechanism is unclear.

Electric Pulse Regulated MXene Based Nanozymes for Integrative Bioelectricity Immuno‐Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MXenzyme‐mediated bioelectricity cancer therapy (MXenzyme‐BECT) enhances cancer cell death through irreversible depolarization, ion channel disruption, ROS generation, and immunogenic cell death. Computational simulations reveal the electrical mechanisms by which MXenzyme acts on single cells and support to predict treatment parameters. Next‐generation

Isoflurane postconditioning reduces ischemia-induced nuclear factor-κB activation and interleukin 1β production to provide neuroprotection in rats and mice

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2013
Application of isoflurane, a volatile anesthetic, after brain ischemia can reduce ischemic brain injury in rodents (isoflurane postconditioning). This study is designed to determine whether isoflurane postconditioning improves long-term neurological ...

Intraoperative administration of isoflurane improves survival in rats exposed to caecal ligation and puncture

open access: yesBJA Open, 2022
Background: Emerging data suggest that volatile anaesthetic agents may be protective during critical illness. Methods: Three-month-old Sprague Dawley rats were randomly allocated to one of four groups: isoflurane during surgery followed by 3 days of ...

Isoflurane promotes phagocytosis of apoptotic neutrophils through AMPK-mediated ADAM17/Mer signaling. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
A patient's recovery from lung inflammatory injury or development of multi-system organ failure is determined by the host's ability to resolve inflammation and repair tissue damage, both of which require the clearance of apoptotic neutrophils by ...

Occupational exposure to isoflurane anesthetic gas in the research environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This dissertation is a compilation of studies related to the halogenated anesthetic gas isoflurane. Historically, halogenated anesthetic gases have been used in the health care industry.

Effect of Isoflurane on the Hearing in Mice [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Audiology, 2012
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between inhalation anesthetics and hearing in mice.As inhalation anesthetics, isoflurane was used. Auditory brainstem response and distortion product otoacoustic emission were used as measurement of hearing. Mice were divided into 2 groups.

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.

HIF-1α mediates isoflurane-induced vascular protection in subarachnoid hemorrhage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
OBJECTIVE: Outcome after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) depends critically on delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) – a process driven primarily by vascular events including cerebral vasospasm, microvessel thrombosis, and microvascular dysfunction ...

High‐Throughput Microfluidic‐Mediated Assembly of Layer‐By‐Layer Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of polymer films on nanoparticle (NP) surfaces is a promising technique for targeted drug delivery. Despite its success in preclinical mouse models, a current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) compliant, clinical‐scale production method has been lacking.
