Realization of Robot Aided Isokinetic Exercise Using Exercise-As-Desired Control

open access: yes2019 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics (ICM), 2019
This paper develops a control algorithm for a robot aided Isokinetic exercise which is the most effective muscular exercise. In order to achieve human intention based Isokinetic exercise, the exercise-as-desired control scheme is proposed to provide the exercise profile to the velocity-controlled actuator of robot.

Isokinetic exercise in rehabilitation

Applied Ergonomics, 1991
Since isokinetic equipment was first designed in the late 1960s, many investigations have focused on the agonist-antagonist relationships, left-right imbalances and so on, in order to present normative data for the assessment of musculoskeletal injuries. Furthermore, the isokinetic principle has been applied in rehabilitation to minimise rehabilitation

Isokinetic Eccentric Exercise

Sports Medicine, 1995
The development of active isokinetic dynamometers has allowed the assessment of muscular moment under eccentric activations that have different characteristics to concentric actions. It is well documented that at a given angular velocity the eccentric moment is greater than the corresponding concentric moment.

Principles of Isokinetic Exercise

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America, 1994
This article includes a review of the torque-velocity relationship for both concentric and eccentric isokinetic movement. This relationship is influenced by muscle properties and measurement technique. The effect of concentric and eccentric isokinetic exercise on muscle and the torque-velocity relationship is reviewed also.
