Syrinx anatomy and vocalizations in New World vultures (Aves: Cathartidae): Implications for avian vocal evolution

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
New World vultures are the only avian clade proposed to lack a syrinx and have been described as non‐vocal. Using dissection, diceCT, and histology, we demonstrate that cathartid vultures have novel syringeal features that form a syrinx and vocal characterization reveals that they produce more complex vocalizations than previously reported.

The Dynamics of Pharyngeal Shortening in Healthy Swallowing: Effects of Sex, Age, Bolus Volume and Consistency

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Pharyngeal shortening can be indexed by tracking the location of the upper oesophageal sphincter (white star) relative to the cervical spine, with segments numbered according to an extended VERT scale with three segments per vertebra and one segment for each intervertebral space from C7 to C2.

Implant stability quotient and osteogenic process in dental implant sites prepared using piezoelectric technique: A study in minipigs

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Few studies have explored the bone response in dental implant sites prepared using a piezoelectric device, indicating moderate effectiveness in enhancing secondary stability and osteogenesis. This study seeks to expand our understanding of the changes in biological, clinical, and radiographic parameters, during the initial phases of ...
