β-Adrenoceptor desensitization in guinea-pig isolated trachea

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1988
Exposure to (-)-isoprenaline (25 microM, 1 h) caused a stereoselective, time and concentration-related decrease in smooth muscle beta 2-adrenoceptor function in guinea-pig trachea. Furthermore, tracheal relaxant responsiveness to the beta-adrenoceptor agonists (+/-)-fenoterol and (-)-noradrenaline was reduced, while that to theophylline and ...

EFFECTS OF NORADRENALINE ON THE ISOLATED HUMAN BRONCHUS. COMPARISON WITH THE ISOLATED GUINEA PIG TRACHEA

Fundamental & Clinical Pharmacology, 1988
Summary—The pharmacodynamic activity of noradrenaline was evaluated comparativelyin vitroon isolated human bronchi and on guinea pig tracheal spirals. Noradrenaline exerted a contractile effect on both preparations under resting tone and in the presence of propranolol 10−6M; maximal noradrenaline‐induced contraction was 15–20% of maximal acetylcholine (

Regulation of Airway Surface Liquid on the Isolated Guinea-pig Trachea

Pulmonary Pharmacology, 1994
Isolated guinea-pig tracheae exposed to conditioned air mucosally and to circulating saline solutions serosally have been subjected to an osmotic gradient between saline and airway surface and to a range of drugs. Experiments were conducted to examine the mechanisms that regulate airway surface liquid during condensation and evaporation.

ANTAGONISM BY MANGANESE OF ISOPRENALINE DILATATION OF THE GUINEA‐PIG ISOLATED TRACHEA

Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 1983
SUMMARY1. Manganese (0.5‐100 μmol/1) was found to be a potent inhibitor of the dilator effect of isoprenaline on the isolated tracheal muscle of the guinea‐pig. Above these concentrations the inhibitory action of Mn2+ diminished and no inhibition occurred above 1000 μmol/I Mn2+.

A technique for the isolation of submucosal gland cells from cat trachea

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1983
We have developed a procedure to isolate submucosal gland cells from cat trachea. The excised trachea was stripped of surface epithelium by stroking the luminal surface with a nylon brush. The remaining submucosa was scraped free from underlying cartilage and minced into small fragments.

Functional reconstitution of an isolated sodium channel from bovine trachea

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1988
An amiloride-sensitive Na+ channel from bovine trachea was isolated using an affinity gel and reconstituted into a planar lipid bilayer. This channel exhibited: 1. Fluctuations with long duration opening and closing times, weak voltage dependence, and a conductance of 6 pS. 2. Selectivity of at least 100-fold for Na+ over K+. 3.
