Isolation of diosgenin by microbiological hydrolysis of saponin
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1955Abstract By microbial hydrolysis the saponins in pulverized Dioscorea tuber have been cleaved into the component parts, diosgenin and the sugar moieties. In one case a derivative, Δ 4 -diosgenone, was isolated. Although a wide range of conditions may be used in this conversion, the simplest include a mixed culture fermentation of pulverized fresh ...

A Simplified Apparatus for the Microbiological Isolation of Calves
British Veterinary Journal, 1976SUMMARY An isolator has been developed for rearing gnotobiotic and specific pathogen free (SPF) calves. The isolator consisted of relatively cheap components which could be rapidly assembled; the upper half being a flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) canopy clamped to a glass fibre tank.

Spectrum and Susceptibilities of Microbiologic Isolates in the Endophthalmitis Vitrectomy Study
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1996To determine the microbiologic spectrum and antibiotic susceptibilities of infecting organisms in postoperative endophthalmitis and to evaluate the effects of operative factors on the microbiologic spectrum.Patients with bacterial endophthalmitis presenting within six weeks of cataract extraction or secondary intraocular lens implantation (IOL) were ...

Isolation of Bacillus thuringiensis for Microbiological Control of Insects
Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, Parasitenkunde, Infektionskrankheiten und Hygiene. Zweite Naturwissenschaftliche Abteilung: Mikrobiologie der Landwirtschaft, der Technologie und des Umweltschutzes, 1978Eleven of 180 local isolates, belonging to Bacillus thuringiensis, were tested for their pathogenicity to pinkbollworm larvae (Pectinophora gossypiella). Three strains, namely RS-25, RS-35, and RS-45, showed a positive insecticidal activity. Their activities based on the crystalline inclusion bodies.

Flexible film isolators: microbiological safety tests
Journal of Hospital Infection, 1983Flexible film isolators, used in either a positive pressure mode to protect the contents or in a negative pressure mode to protect the environment outside the isolator, have been available for some years. They have been used to protect experimental animals held in germ-free conditions (Trexler, 1971), to house immunosuppressed patients (Trexler, Spiers

Microbiologic Study of Strains of Mycoplasma gallisepticum Isolated in Argentina [PDF]
Chronic respiratory disease (CRD) in chickens and turkeys in Argentina was first reported in previous articles (2,3), which described two enzootics. In June, July, and August, 1962, three farms registered new outbreaks of this disease, from which isolations of M. gallisepticum were made.
