Branched‐chain amino acids and all‐cause mortality in patients with liver cirrhosis, and the onset of diabetes in liver transplant recipients

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, EarlyView.
Our study demonstrates that total BCAA levels increase following liver transplantation. In patients with cirrhosis, higher total BCAA levels are associated with a reduced risk of all‐cause mortality. However, while this association is not observed in liver transplant recipients, elevated total BCAA levels are strongly linked to an increased risk of new‐

The preference for energetic resources is positively associated with predatory activity in ants

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
We found that ants exhibit a stronger preference for foraging for carbohydrates and lipids (energetic nutrients) compared to amino acids. The increase in foraging for energetic nutrients compared to amino acids is positively correlated with foraging in larvae (insect predation). The nutrient preference between foraging for energetic nutrients and amino

Rare dysfunctional SCN2A variants are associated with malformation of cortical development

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 66, Issue 3, Page 914-928, March 2025.
Abstract Objective SCN2A encodes the voltage‐gated sodium (Na+) channel α subunit NaV1.2, which is important for the generation and forward and back propagation of action potentials in neurons. Genetic variants in SCN2A are associated with a spectrum of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Metabolomic and proteomic stratification of equine osteoarthritis

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Equine osteoarthritis (OA) is predominantly diagnosed through clinical examination and radiography, leading to detection only after significant joint pathology. The pathogenesis of OA remains unclear and while many medications modify the disease's inflammatory components, no curative or reversal treatments exist.
