Isoquinolines in Parkinson’s Disease

2000
1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinoline (TIQ) derivatives, which chemically resemble MPTP, exist in mammals and have been proposed as candidates for endogenous parkinsonogenic compounds. TIQ, l-benzyl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (1-benzyl-TIQ) could induce parkinsonism in rodents and a primate.

Chapter 7. Isoquinolines

2015
This chapter reviews a non-exhaustive number of close to 200 natural products and lead compounds with isoquinoline scaffolds used in drug development. Two classes of small-molecule drug candidates are discussed: firstly, those derived from natural products and, secondly, those that are chemically engineered based on structure–activity relationships ...

Isoquinoline Alkaloids and Chemotaxonomy

2019
The isoquinoline alkaloids are a class of secondary metabolites classified into different groups, being the aporphinoids the most representative class. They are considered the second-largest class of alkaloids in terms of structural diversity staying behind only of indole alkaloids.
