Discovery of a isothiazolinone-containing antitubercular natural product levesquamide

open access: yes, 2020
Antitubercular agent levesquamide is a new polyketide-nonribosomal peptide (PK-NRP) hybrid marine natural product isolated from Streptomyces sp. RKND-216. The structure contains a rare isothiazolinone moiety which has only been reported in collismycin SN.

Mapping of Former Strategies and Future Needs for Regulatory Prevention of Skin Sensitization: Cosmetic Products

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
This study identified multiple areas for improvement in the regulatory risk assessment process. Conclusions based on predictive sensitization data should be made with caution, read‐across data from known sensitizers should be utilized, and epidemiological and patient threshold data should be prioritized in decision‐making.

Biodistribution and respiratory toxicity of chloromethylisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone following intranasal and intratracheal administration

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2022
A variety of isothiazolinone-containing small molecules have been registered and used as chemical additives in many household products. However, their biodistribution and potential harmful effects on human health, especially respiratory effects, were not

Effect of Cosmetics Use on the In Vitro Skin Absorption of a Biocide, 1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one

open access: yesToxics, 2022
1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) is a commonly used organic biocide containing an isothiazolone ring. However, it may have adverse effects on human health and its risk needs to be properly evaluated. Dermal exposure is the main route of BIT exposure, and

Occupational Allergic Contact Dermatitis From Over‐Ear Headphones: Chemical Analysis Reveals Octylisothiazolinone and Other Potential Skin Sensitizers

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Over‐ear headphones are a growing source of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Identifying well‐known and new culprit sensitizers in such products is challenging because of a lack of labelling and limited cooperation from manufacturers.

Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone 10 Years After Regulation: A Case Story of Liquid Soaps and Shampoos

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 95, Issue 4, Page 405-412, October 2026.
MCI/MI and MI contact allergy remain persistent. In this analysis of the Danish market, 257 products containing MCI/MI or MI were identified, and 30 products were analysed. Two exceeded regulatory limits, while most complied, suggesting current limits may require further investigation. Created in BioRender. Pedersen, M. K.

Epidemiological, Clinical and Allergic Profile of Patients With Dyshidrotic Eczema (Acute and Recurrent Vesicular Dermatitis): Evaluation of the Spanish Registry of Research in Contact Dermatitis and Cutaneous Allergy (REIDAC)

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, Volume 95, Issue 3, Page 286-294, September 2026.
In this exploratory analysis, dyshidrotic eczema demonstrated a distinct sensitisation pattern compared with non‐dyshidrotic hand eczema. The lower proportion of clinically relevant reactions amongst positive patch tests suggests a multi‐factorial and not exclusively allergic background.
