Turbulence modulation in particle-laden stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence using one-dimensional turbulence [PDF]
Turbulence modulation in particle-laden stationary homogeneous isotropic turbulence is investigated using one-dimensional turbulence (ODT), a low-dimensional stochastic flow simulation model. For this purpose, ODT is extended in two ways. First, a forcing scheme that maintains statistical stationarity is introduced.

Triple Decomposition of Velocity Gradient Tensor in Compressible Turbulence
The decomposition of the local motion of a fluid into straining, shearing, and rigid-body rotation is examined in this work for a compressible isotropic turbulence by means of direct numerical simulations.

Correlation functions in isotropic and anisotropic turbulence: the role of the symmetry group
The theory of fully developed turbulence is usually considered in an idealized homogeneous and isotropic state. Real turbulent flows exhibit the effects of anisotropic forcing.

Homogeneity and isotropy in a laboratory turbulent flow
We present a new design for a stirred tank that is forced by two parallel planar arrays of randomly actuated synthetic jets. This arrangement creates turbulence at high Reynolds number with low mean flow.

A numerical tool for the study of the hydrodynamic recovery of the Lattice Boltzmann Method [PDF]
We investigate the hydrodynamic recovery of Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) by analyzing exact balance relations for energy and enstrophy derived from averaging the equations of motion on sub-volumes of different sizes.

Near-wake analysis of actuator line method immersed in turbulent flow using large-eddy simulations [PDF]
The interaction between wind turbines through their wakes is an important aspect of the conception and operation of a wind farm. Wakes are characterized by an elevated turbulence level and a noticeable velocity deficit, which causes a decrease in ...

Rotation Rate of Particle Pairs in Homogeneous Isotropic Turbulence [PDF]
Understanding the dynamics of particles in turbulent flow is important in many environmental and industrial applications. In this paper, the statistics of particle pair orientation is numerically studied in homogeneous isotropic turbulent flow, with ...
