Spotlight on the September 4 Issue [PDF]

open access: yesNeurology, 2012
Data were available for 33 studies (16,070 patients): 26 of 33 reported stroke at 2 days, 32 of 33 at 7 days, and 28 of 33 at 90 days after TIA. The ABCD2 score leads to only small revisions of baseline stroke risk, particularly in settings of low baseline risk and when used by nonspecialists. See p. 971; Editorial, p.

Emapalumab for Immune Effector Cell‐Associated Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis‐Like Syndrome Following CD19‐Directed CAR‐T in Two Patients With B‐ALL: Clinical and Biomarker Correlates

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Immune effector cell‐associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis‐like syndrome (IEC‐HS) is a life‐threatening hyperinflammatory toxicity distinct from cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurotoxicity following chimeric antigen receptor T‐cell (CAR‐T) therapy. Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Spotlight on the February 4 issue [PDF]

open access: yesNeurology, 2014
The authors analyzed the efficacy of combining 2 frequently prescribed antiplatelets (clopidogrel and ASA) for long-term vascular prevention in 838 patients with a recent ischemic stroke. With the addition of clopidogrel to ASA in patients with a lacunar stroke while taking ASA, there was no reduction of vascular events compared to ASA alone.

Infection Control Practices for Vascular Access Management in Hemodialysis: Results From a Nationwide Survey of Japanese National University Hospitals

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.
