Improving the Availability of Organic Forage Seed in Wales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The EU regulation requiring organic farmers to use 100% organic herbage seed is looming closer. Currently they are ‘enjoying’ a derogation from this because suitable seed is not available. For 2004 seeds mixtures had to contain at least 50% organic seed.

Susceptibility to Rust (Puccinia Sp.) in Cultivars of Italian and Perennial Ryegrass Grown in Two Locations of Italy

open access: yesItalian Journal of Agronomy, 2009
A large set of foreign varieties of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) and perennial ryegrass (L. perenne) were evaluated for their response to natural rust infection in two Italian locations (Lodi in the north; Perugia in the centre of the country ...

Effect of Seeding Dates of Italian Ryegrass Interseeded into Bermudagrass Sod on the Forage Productivity and Botanical Composition of Italian Ryegrass and Bermudagrass

open access: yesJournal of The Korean Society of Grassland and Forage Science, 2011
This study was carried out to determine the effect of seeding dates of Italian ryegrass interseeded into bermudagrass sod on the forage productivity and botanical composition of Italian ryegrass and bermudagrass. Experimental plot was located at 200 m altitude within Subtropical Animal Experiment Station, National Institute of Animal Science in Jeju ...

Effect of herbage allowances on biomass flows in Italian ryegrass

open access: yesCiência Rural
: The objective of this study was to determine the leaf tissue flows in Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.), in different phenological stages, grazed by lambs, and managed under three herbage allowances (6, 9 and 12 kg DM/100 kg body weight under ...

Dinitrogen fixation and residue nitrogen of different managed legumes and nitrogen uptake of subsequent winter wheat [N2-Fixierung und residualer Stickstoff verschiedener Futterleguminosen sowie N-Aufnahme der Folgefrucht Winterweizen.] [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Fixed nitrogen accumulated by legumes is the main nitrogen source for organic farming systems. Knowledge about the amount of fixed nitrogen, its pathways into forage yield, crop residues, soil-N and yield formation of the following crop is needed for ...

Morphological and molecular characterization of italian ryegrass populations

open access: yesCropp Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2003
Italian ryegrass is the most important temperate grass in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Despite its overall importance, there are no breeding programs for this species in this State. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the existing variability within and between four Italian ryegrass populations, three from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and one from ...

Nitrogen turnover and leaching in cropping systems with ryegrass catch crops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This thesis deals with perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) catch crops and their short- and long-term effects on nitrogen leaching and nitrogen turnover in soils. Results are presented from three field experiments on a sandy soil in south-west Sweden,
