Monsoons, ITCZs, and the Concept of the Global Monsoon [PDF]
Abstract Earth's tropical and subtropical rainbands, such as Intertropical Convergence Zones (ITCZs) and monsoons, are complex systems, governed by both large‐scale constraints on the atmospheric general circulation and regional interactions with continents and orography, and coupled to the ocean.

Interdecadal changes in eastern Pacific ITCZ variability and its influence on the Atlantic ITCZ [PDF]
The eastern Pacific and Atlantic Intertropical Convergence Zones (ITCZ) exhibit the largest year‐to‐year variations in boreal spring. We show evidence suggesting that Atlantic ITCZ April–May variability is linked to that for the eastern Pacific through the Walker circulation as it respond to changes in equatorial Pacific convection.

A Relationship Between ITCZ Organization and Subtropical Humidity [PDF]
AbstractMotivated by the results of idealized studies on the self‐aggregation of convection, we investigate a potential relationship between the degree of organization of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and humidity based on reanalysis data.

The relationship between improvements in the radiation bias over the Southern Ocean and the alleviation of the double‐intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) problem in the actual updates of our climate models is investigated.

The Hadley Circulation and associated westerlies strengthened and moved equatorward across the mid‐Pleistocene transition (MPT). However, the evolution of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is still elusive due to the scarcity of long‐term ...

Observed interannual relationship between ITCZ position and tropical cyclone frequency [PDF]
There are no well accepted mechanisms that can explain the annual frequency of tropical cyclones (TCs) both globally and in individual ocean basins. Recent studies using idealized models showed that the climatological frequency of TC genesis (TCG) is ...

This paper presents the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) as the possible source mechanism of the medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) propagating to the southeast direction over the South American region. Using the data collected

Dynamics of the ITCZ Boundary Layer
Abstract This paper presents high-resolution numerical solutions of a nonlinear zonally symmetric slab model of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) boundary layer. The boundary layer zonal and meridional flows are forced by a specified pressure field, which can also be interpreted as a specified geostrophically balanced zonal wind ...

Long term spatial trends in West African monsoon precipitation
Across West Africa, rainfall is a vital weather component. Its importance in agriculture, the economy, and even governance across the region cannot be overstated due to the nature of the socio-economic vulnerabilities within this region.
