ABSTRACT Riverine and valley systems across the globe have been central to the development of past urban centres. By AD 900, the Shashe and Limpopo Rivers seem to have facilitated the interaction and integration of early farming communities in southern Africa. This paper focuses on the application of geoarchaeological perspectives made available by the

Previous studies have suggested that global ocean circulation would be significantly changed under global warming, while the change of North Equatorial Countercurrent (NECC) and its mechanisms are still unclear.

Future Mediterranean Summer Drying Across Models: Opposing Dynamic and Thermodynamic Constraints
Abstract Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) models project drier Mediterranean summers under global warming, yet exhibit substantial inter‐model spread. Notably, models with stronger global‐mean warming produce little additional drying.

A Multiscale Model for the Modulation and Rectification of the ITCZ
Abstract The authors introduce the modulation of the ITCZ equations (M-ITCZ), which describes the multiscale dynamics of the ITCZ on diurnal to monthly time scales in which mesoscale convectively coupled Rossby waves in the ITCZ are modulated by a large-scale gravity wave that is also generated by convection.

Parameterization adaption needed to unlock the benefits of increased resolution for the ITCZ in ICON [PDF]
The double Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (double-ITCZ) bias has been a persistent tropical precipitation bias over many climate model generations. This motivates investigations of whether increasing resolution and discarding parameterizations improves ...

Abstract Atmospheric non‐methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) are important trace species with anthropogenic and natural sources including fugitive emissions from fossil fuel mining and distribution, biomass burning, biofuel combustion, and biogenic emissions from microbes and plants.

Changes in ITCZ location and cross-equatorial heat transport at [PDF]
Tropical paleoclimate records provide important insights into the response of precipitation patterns and the Hadley circulation to past climate changes.

Flight of the dragons: a global review of migration in Odonata
ABSTRACT Insects are the most abundant and ecologically important animal migrants. Yet, we know relatively little about the patterns and processes underlying insect migration. Dragonflies (Anisoptera) and damselflies (Zygoptera) comprise the ancient insect order Odonata, whose ancestors were the first organisms to fly on Earth.

Factors controlling the position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone on an aquaplanet
Aqua planet experiments performed with fixed sea surface temperatures (SST) using the ECHAM6 GCM are studied to understand properties that influence the position of the inter tropical convergence zone (ITCZ). A single ITCZ develops when using the Nordeng

Dynamical Downscaling of Climate Simulations in the Tropics
The long‐existing double‐Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) problem in global climate models (GCMs) hampers accurate climate simulations in the tropics. Using a regional climate model (RCM) over the tropical and sub‐tropical Atlantic with a horizontal
