Pan-eukaryote ITS2 homologies revealed by RNA secondary structure [PDF]
For evolutionary comparisons, phylogenetics and evaluation of potential interbreeding taxa of a species, various loci have served for animals and plants and protistans. One [second internal transcribed spacer (ITS2) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA] is highly suitable for all. Its sequence is species specific.

Malaria is a public health threat caused by the Plasmodium infection transmitted by the Anopheles mosquito. Malaria vector control is highly dependent on the ability to determine mosquito species' vectorial and bionomic capacity. Species identification based on morphological characteristics as well as DNA-barcoding approaches is a very important step ...

Comparative analysis of fungal microbiomes in Korean and Chinese chili pepper powders
Abstract BACKGROUND Chili pepper powder plays a crucial role in kimchi fermentation; however, its use may result in fungal contamination. Therefore, analyzing its mycobiome is vital to maintain quality control standards. In this study, we used internal transcribed spacer (ITS)2 amplicon sequencing to compare fungal communities in commercially available

Underground Lag: Fungal Community and Edaphic Legacies After Disturbance
ABSTRACT Páramos are neotropical mountain ecosystems that regulate water and store large amounts of carbon, but are increasingly degraded by agriculture and grazing. Although native vegetation often recolonizes after abandonment, belowground recovery remains poorly understood.

Rethinking intensification: Biodiversity‐inclusive management sustains coconut yields
Coconut palm expansion in West Africa will shape rural livelihoods and ecosystems. Our findings show that intensive practices reduce beneficial soil fungi and increase pathogens, threatening long‐term productivity. Lower‐intensity management that retains ground vegetation can sustain or boost yields while improving soil health.

Variation in Symbiodinium ITS2 Sequence Assemblages among Coral Colonies
Endosymbiotic dinoflagellates in the genus Symbiodinium are fundamentally important to the biology of scleractinian corals, as well as to a variety of other marine organisms. The genus Symbiodinium is genetically and functionally diverse and the taxonomic nature of the union between Symbiodinium and corals is implicated as a key trait determining the ...
