Complete Mitochondrial Genome of the Araucanian Herring, <i>Strangomera bentincki</i>, Norman, 1936 (Teleostei: Clupeiformes: Clupeidae): Phylogenetic Analysis and Implications in Fishmeal Traceability. [PDF]
Araucanian herring (Strangomera bentincki) is a pelagic fish whose main processed products are fishmeal and oil. The complete mitogenome is 16,758 bp, consisting of 13 coding genes, two rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and the control region. Phylogenetic analysis supported a monophyletic clade with Sprattus muelleri and Sprattus antipodum.

The present investigation was conducted to identify the feeding stimulants for jack mackerel Trachurus japonicus by a bioassay method using the synthetic extract, based upon analysis of jack mackerel muscle. The purified casein basal diet flavored with the synthetic extract was readily ingested by the jack mackerel, but the unflavored diet was not ...

Target-strength measurements of hake and jack mackerel [PDF]
Target-strength (TS) measurements of dispersed shoals of jack mackerel (Trachurus symmetricus murphyi Nichols), Chilean hake (Merluccius gayi Guichenot), and southern hake (Merluccius australis Hutton) were made using a 38 kHz split-beam echo-sounder. TS and length distributions were obtained from night hauls taken with midwater and bottom trawls.

Use of Citizen Science to Determine Prey Partitioning Between Two Coastal Raptors. [PDF]
In Australia, Eastern Osprey (Pandion haliaetus cristatus) and White‐bellied Sea‐Eagle (Haliaeetus leucogaster) occupy the same ecological niche and are suspected of partitioning prey resources. This study investigated this through evaluating the breadth, overlap and partitioning of diets recorded from social media posts.

The role of carrion supply in the abundance of deep-water fish off California. [PDF]
Few time series of deep-sea systems exist from which the factors affecting abyssal fish populations can be evaluated. Previous analysis showed an increase in grenadier abundance, in the eastern North Pacific, which lagged epibenthic megafaunal abundance,

The feeding stimulant activities of nucleotides-related and tryptophan-related componunds were tested on young jack mackerel Trachurus japonicus at concentrations of 1 and 5 mmol/100g dry diet, respectively. Effective doses of inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) and L-tryptophan (Trp) added to the diet on feeding activity were also examined. Of 33 compounds
