Oral immunotherapy for pollen allergy using T-cell epitope-containing egg white derived from genetically manipulated chickens.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Peptide immunotherapy using T-cell epitopes is expected to be an effective treatment for allergic diseases such as Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica; Cj) pollinosis.

An Improved and Simplified Propagation System for Pollen-Free Sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) via Somatic Embryogenesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Sugi (Japanese cedar, Cryptomeria japonica) is the most important forestry tree species in Japan, covering 44% of the total artificial forest area. Large amounts of pollen released from these forests each spring cause allergic reactions in approximately ...

Nature‐Positive Materials Engineering: Carbon Electrodes from Satoyama Biomass

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, Volume 26, Issue 7, July 2026.
Nature‐positive materials engineering can link satoyama forest stewardship with the design of carbon electrodes for batteries, supercapacitors, and electrocatalysis. By turning underused firewood and charcoal resources into functional carbons, this approach reduces mining footprints while supporting biodiversity, landscape resilience, and regional ...

Decontamination of Cs from Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) via kraft cooking [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science, 2017
To investigate the possibility of decontaminating 137Cs-contaminated Cryptomeria japonica wood, kraft pulping was conducted and the Cs behavior in the reaction process was examined. 133Cs-treated or 137Cs-contaminated bark, sapwood, and heartwood chips of Cryptomeria japonica were digested using an aqueous solution of NaOH and Na2S. The pulp was washed

Species‐Specific Adaptability in Seasonal Resource Use by Non‐Breeding Crows: Contrasting Responses to Natural and Anthropogenic Environments

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 4, July 2026.
Two sympatric crow species showed distinct resource use during the snow‐free season, exploiting different environments and anthropogenic resources. In contrast, during winter, both species converged on similar habitats and food resources under snow cover. These results highlight flexible, season‐dependent resource use in non‐breeding crows.

Seroprevalence of Immunoglobulin E Antibodies against Japanese Cedar Pollen Allergens Cry j 1 and Cry j 2 in Dogs Bred in Japan

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2018
Levels of Japanese cedar pollen (Cryptomeria japonica) have increased in Japan and cedar pollinosis caused by Japanese cedar pollen has been reported in dogs. Serum levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) against Cry j 1 and Cry j 2 in dogs raised in institutes

Effect of delignification on thermal degradation reactivities of hemicellulose and cellulose in wood cell walls

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science, 2021
The thermal degradation reactivities of cellulose and hemicellulose are substantially different in Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica, a softwood) and Japanese beech (Fagus crenata, a hardwood). Uronic acid and its salts act as acid and base catalysts,

Safety evaluation of a food enzyme containing endo‐polygalacturonase and pectin lyase activities from the non‐genetically modified Aspergillus luchuensis strain NZYM‐XA

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract The food enzyme containing endo‐polygalacturonase (1,4‐α‐d‐galacturonan glycanohydrolase; EC 3.2.1.15) and pectin lyase (1,4‐6‐O‐methyl‐α‐d‐galacturonan lyase; EC 4.2.2.10) activities is produced with the non‐genetically modified microorganism Aspergillus luchuensis strain NZYM‐XA by Novozymes A/S.

Pest categorisation of Mimela testaceipes

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2023
The EFSA Panel on Plant Health performed a pest categorisation of Mimela testaceipes (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), the striated chafer, for the EU, following a commodity risk assessment of dwarfed Pinus parviflora grafted onto P.
