Ecotoxicity of heat-treated Kapur and Japanese larch [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2016
Kapur (Dryobalanops sp.) and Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) wood samples were heat-treated in air at 180 °C for 24 and 48 h. Leaching and toxicity tests were conducted to determine the ecotoxicity effect of these heat-treated woods on the aquatic environment due to heat treatment.

Single and combined effects of fertilization, ectomycorrhizal inoculation, and drought on container-grown Japanese larch seedlings

open access: yesJournal of Forest Research, 2022
Climate change can intensify drought in many regions of the world and lead to more frequent drought events or altered cycles of soil water status. Therefore, it is important to enhance the tolerance to drought and thus health, vigor, and success of ...

Inheritance of wood properties and their radial variations in full-sib families of 36-year-old Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi (Lamb.) Carr.)

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Science, 2023
Key message Larger differences of maximum load among families were found in mature wood compared to juvenile wood, suggesting the possibility of improving mature wood with higher resistance to rupture and maintaining characteristics of material in Larix ...

Upgrading the fuel properties of hydrochar by co-hydrothermal carbonisation of dairy manure and Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi): product characterisation, thermal behaviour, kinetics and thermodynamic properties

open access: yesBiomass Conversion and Biorefinery, 2021
This study investigated co-hydrothermal carbonisation (co-HTC) of dairy manure (DM) and wood shavings from Larix kaempferi, commonly known as the Japanese larch (JL) to enhance the fuel properties of the resulting hydrochar.

Effects of Girdling Intensity, Pruning Season and Thinning on Tree Growth, Crown Vigor and Wound Recovery in Japanese Larch

open access: yesForests, 2022
To ensure sustainable forestry, it is important to establish efficient management procedures for seed orchards. We evaluated the effects of thinning, pruning season and girdling intensity on tree growth and vigor in an old Larix kaempferi seed orchard ...

Comparison of natural durability of wood by stake tests followed by survival analysis

open access: yesJournal of Wood Science, 2021
The conventional stake test is widely used to evaluate wood durability. The test monitors the deterioration level observed on stakes partially inserted into the ground.

Development of Variable-Density Yield Models with Site Index Estimation for Korean Pines and Japanese Larch

open access: yesForests, 2022
The objectives of this study were to develop site index and variable-density yield models for Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora Siebold & Zucc.), Korean white pine (P. koraiensis S.

A comparative study of the tracheid and crystalline properties of Dahurian larch (Larix gmelinii) and Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) wood

open access: yesBioResources, 2022
The tracheid and crystalline properties of earlywood and latewood within the stems of Korean-grown Dahurian and Japanese larches were studied to obtain valuable information for identifying these two species and determining their wood quality.

Experiment on Snow Crown of Japanese Larch (2)

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice, 1973
A comparative observation of the weights of snow crown was made on test larch trees 15, 25, 42 and 53 years in age. As a result of the comparison of the weights of snow crown in terms of load per unit area shaded by crown, any difference in weight of snow crown due to the difference in tree age could not be ascertained clearly, and as far as the 15, 25

Experimental Study of Bending and Bearing Strength of Parallel Strand Lumber (PSL) from Japanese Larch Veneer Strand

open access: yesJournal of the Korean Wood Science and Technology, 2022
This study examined the structural performance of experimental parallel strand lumber (PSL) from a Larch veneer strand. The prototype of PSL from a Larch veneer strand was manufactured in the experimental laboratory and tested.
