Reconstruction of Fermi and eROSITA Bubbles from Magnetized Jet Eruption with Simulations

open access: yesUniverse
The Fermi bubbles and the eROSITA bubbles around the Milky Way Galaxy are speculated to be the aftermaths of past jet eruptions from a supermassive black hole in the galactic center.

Jet properties in PbPb and pp collisions at sNN=5.02$$ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{N}\;\mathrm{N}}}=5.02 $$ TeV

open access: yes, 2018
A bstractModifications of the properties of jets in PbPb collisions, relative to those in pp collisions, are studied at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN=5.02$$ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{N}\;\mathrm{N}}}=5.02 $$ TeV via correlations of charged ...

Energy flow polynomials: a complete linear basis for jet substructure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A bstractWe introduce the energy flow polynomials: a complete set of jet substructure observables which form a discrete linear basis for all infrared- and collinear-safe observables.

Jet-images — deep learning edition [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2015
Building on the notion of a particle physics detector as a camera and the collimated streams of high energy particles, or jets, it measures as an image, we investigate the potential of machine learning techniques based on deep learning architectures to ...

Mitigation of Cracks in High‐Performance Nickel‐Based Superalloys in Powder Bed Fusion Laser Beam of Metals Using a Metal Matrix Composite Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐performance nickel‐based superalloys are often not processible in additive manufacturing (AM) due to hot cracking. The findings in this manuscript propose an efficient method to mitigate cracking and enhance mechanical properties of these alloys by producing a metal matrix composite, contributing to the material and process perspective of the AM ...

Overview of the JET results [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Fusion, 2015
Since the installation of an ITER-like wall, the JET programme has focused on the consolidation of ITER design choices and the preparation for ITER operation, with a specific emphasis given to the bulk tungsten melt experiment, which has been crucial for the final decision on the material choice for the day-one tungsten divertor in ITER.

Influence of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties at Elevated Temperatures of Nonweldable Ni‐Based Alloy Printed by Fused Filament Fabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The fused filament‐fabricated MAR‐M247 alloy without hot isostatic pressing shows the lowest porosity of 4%. Heat treatment at 1220 °C produces coarse precipitates and carbides. Specimens heat‐treated at 1220 °C exhibit higher tensile strength (683 MPa) and elongation (10%) at room temperature.

Flow control of rectangular jet by DBD plasma actuators

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The utility of a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuator as a spread controller for a rectangular jet is investigated. The rectangular nozzle (75×10 mm) is used and actuators are placed on the long sides of the nozzle exit.

On the Deformation Behavior of Metastable CrMnNi Steels Processed by Directed Energy Deposition in Different Temperature Regimes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In the present study, metastable CrMnNi steels with varying chemical compositions and a concomitantly altered stacking fault energy are processed via directed energy deposition and afterwards tested via tensile tests at different temperatures. The present study shows the influence of the manufacturing process on the elemental deformation mechanisms for
