On the Physics of Jet Diffusion Flames
Combustion Science and Technology, 1992Abstract A physical model for the laminar jet diffusion flame including chemical kinetics effects is provided. We produce the appropriate set of dimensionless groups needed to discuss the role of buoyancy and jet outlet velocity U o on such flames. We are particularly interested in flame lengths L\ the behaviour of the flame is shown to split in two ...

MANY types of sensitive flame have been described from time to time, and measurements of the range of pitch and of the pressure at which they are sensitive have been made, but I have not seen any quantitative record of the variation of the length of such a flame or jet. In this connexion some experiments made recently by Mr. E.

Combustion of biomass in jet flames
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2015Abstract Flames of mixed wood, sawdust, fermentation-process residues and grain residues have been fired at 15 kW thermal input to determine flame ignition, temperature levels, NOx emissions, combustibles burnout as well as fly ash slagging propensity. South African Middleburg coal has been combusted under similar conditions.

Flame stabilization by plasma jets
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1971Abstract The possibility of increasing flame reaction rates, stability and hence the throughput of chemical energy achievable by the addition of a small proportion of electrical power is stuided. The power is added to a subsidiary stream of different gases by a magnetically rotated plasma jet.

Pilot Flame Effects on Gas Jet Flames in Crossflow
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2002Flame structure, which includes the radiation power and temperature profiles, soot concentration profiles, and pollutants emissions (NO, NO x , CO, and CO 2 ) of propane and propylene gas diffusion flames with and without ahydrogen pilot flame in crossflow is presented.

Vortex-flame interactions in opposing-jet premixed flames
38th Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2000A time-dependent CFDC code incorporating detailed chemical kinetics for methane combustion was developed for the simulation of local and temporal quenching process that is observed during a vortex-flame interaction in a premixed flame. The chemistry model was validated by simulating a weakly strained axisymmetric counter-flow premixed flame and by ...

Flame and Soot Boundaries of Laminar Jet Diffusion Flames
AIAA Journal, 2002The shapes (flame-sheet and luminous-flame boundaries) or steady weakly buoyant round hydrocarbon-fueled laminar-jet diffusion flames in still and coflowing air were studied both experimentally and theoretically. Flame-sheet shapes were measured from photographs using a CH optical filter to distinguish flame-sheet boundaries in the presence of blue CO2

The Structure of Jet Diffusion Flames
1989This paper presents the structural characteristics of free, round, jet diffusion flames as obtained using a new 2D laser sheet lighting visualization technique referred to as the RMS (Reactive Mie Scattering) method. The results of analyzing photographs and high speed movies of flames using the RMS method are discussed in terms of the visible flame ...

Interferometric visualization of jet flames
Journal of Visualization, 2000This paper presents visualizations of reacting, round jets of the premixed and nonpremixed type realized by using interferometry and, complementarily, direct photography. The available interferometer, proposed by Carlomagno (1986), employs low-cost components and is flexible and robust to geometrical misalignments, allowing the drawbacks limiting the ...

Flame Stabilization by a Transverse Jet
Combustion Science and Technology, 1991Abstract The present paper reports the results of an experimental study of flame stabilization by a jet of air, normal to the flow of homogeneous propane-air mixture. The objective of the present work was to study in detail the mechanism of flame stabilization by a transverse jet.
