Jet Impingement Cooling in VSCF Generators

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A cooling technique is devised which will maintain the electronics within their thermal operating limits when the power output of currently used VSCFs is augmented to 65 kVA from 40 kVA. This study suggests that the use of jet impingement cooling selectively applied in regions of high heat flux will support the ...

Numerical Simulation of Impinging Jet Cooling

2010 14th International Heat Transfer Conference, Volume 5, 2010
This paper presents a technique for heat transfer prediction of impinging jet cooling of internal combustion engine piston based on numerical simulation in ANSYS CFX. This technique implies the simulation of the hydrodynamics of the interaction between cooling oil jet and moving piston.

Air Impingement Cooling by Synthetic Jet

Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications, 2014
Modern consumer electronic trends point to a demand for thinner and more portable electronic devices. Conventional cooling systems of these portable electronic devices are challenging to miniaturize in thin profile applications that are typically on the order of several millimeters in thickness.

Study on Compulsive Cooling of Straight Impinging Jet Array and Swirling Jet Impingement

2006 International Conference on Electronic Materials and Packaging, 2006
Impinging jet is one of the ideal schemes to satisfy the heat dissipation requirement of the high power chips. In this research, experiments are carried out to investigate the heat transfer between the straight impinging jet array and an iso-heat-flux simulant chip (a heated epoxy resin plate).

Optimal design of impinging jets in an impingement/effusion cooling system

Energy, 2014
Abstract To design an impingement/effusion cooling system that realizes the lowest thermal stress in an impingement/effusion cooling system, we conducted thermal analysis and optimization using a second-order response surface method. The optimal impinging jet system was based on four design variables: the spacing between the impinging jets and ...

Cooling of Electronic Systems by Impinging Air Jets

1994
Thermal performance is one of the most important criterion in the material and process selection for microelectronic packages. Thermal management is driven by integrated circuit scaling. So, forced-air cooling is not only way to get the heat out of electronics. In this paper, cooling of electronic components by impinging air jets is introduced.

Crossflow Minimization for Jet Impingement Cooling Applications

Volume 7B: Heat Transfer — General Interest/Additive Manufacturing Impacts on Heat Transfer; Internal Air Systems; Internal Cooling, 2023
Abstract Jet impingement is used to efficiently cool gas turbine blades and other engine components. However, jet-to-jet interactions result in the accumulation of crossflow as the spent air migrates downstream, which usually causes a decay in the Nusselt number and reduces the overall cooling performance.

Jet impingement cooling of a convex semi-cylindrical surface

International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2001
Liquid crystals are used to investigate the effect of high relative curvature on surface heat transfer for a round air jet impinging perpendicularly on a semicylindrical convex surface. The relative curvature, ( d/D), is varied by changing the jet tube diameter for the same surface diameter. Relative curvature varies from 0.18-0.38.

Converging Jet Impingement for Enhanced Liquid Cooling

Journal of Electronic Packaging, 2023
Abstract Jet impingement cooling is an advanced thermal management technique for high heat flux applications. Standard configurations include single, axisymmetric jets with orifice, slot, or pipe nozzles. This choice in nozzle shape, number of jets, and jet inclination greatly influences the turbulence generated by fluid entrainment due ...

Optimal synthesis of jet impingement cooling systems

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2021
Abstract Authors analyze the structure of jet impingement systems used for computer cooling. We propose the algorithm for optimal synthesis of such systems. The total heat transfer coefficient is being minimized in this process. It corresponds to the minimization of the heat transfer surface when the heat flux is given.
