Region of interest coding in JPEG 2000
Signal Processing: Image Communication, 2002This paper describes the functionality in the JPEG 2000 Part 1 standard, for encoding images with predefined regions of interest (ROI) of arbitrary shape. The method described is called the Maxshift method. This method is based on scaling of the wavelet coefficients after the wavelet transformation and quantization.

Efficient rate control for JPEG-2000
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2006In this paper, we present two new methods for efficient rate control and entropy coding in lossy image compression using JPEG-2000. These two methods enable significant improvements in computation complexity and power consumption over the traditional JPEG-2000 algorithms.

JPEG 2000: overview, architecture, and applications
Proceedings 2000 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.00CH37101), 2000JPEG 2000 will soon be an international standard for still image compression. This paper describes that standard at a high level, indicates the component pieces which empower the standard, and gives example applications which highlight differences between JPEG 2000 and prior image compression standards.

JPEG 2000 performance evaluation and assessment
Signal Processing: Image Communication, 2002Abstract JPEG 2000, the new ISO/ITU-T standard for still image coding, has recently reached the International Standard (IS) status. Other new standards have been recently introduced, namely JPEG-LS and MPEG-4 VTC. This paper provides a comparison of JPEG 2000 with JPEG-LS and MPEG-4 VTC, in addition to older but widely used solutions, such as JPEG ...

Single-Loop Architecture for JPEG 2000
2016We present a novel and very efficient software architecture designed for JPEG 2000 coders. The proposed method employs a strip-based data processing technique while performing a single-pass multi-scale wavelet transform. The overall compression chain is driven by incoming data while the fragments of the resulting bitstream are produced immediately ...

An analytical study of JPEG 2000 functionalities
Proceedings 2000 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.00CH37101), 2000JPEG 2000, the new ISO/ITU-T standard for still image coding, is about to be finished. Other new standards have been recently introduced, namely JPEG-LS and MPEG-4 VTC. This paper compares the set of features offered by JPEG 2000, and how well they are fulfilled, versus JPEG-LS and MPEG-4 VTC, as well as the older but widely used JPEG and the PNG.

Icon based error concealment for JPEG and JPEG 2000 images
Proceedings 2003 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.03CH37429), 2004This paper describes methods to recover the useful data in JPEG and JPEG 2000 compressed images and to estimate data for those portions of the image where correct data cannot be recovered. These techniques are designed to handle the loss of hundreds of bytes in the file.

Visually Lossless JPEG 2000 Decoder
2013 Data Compression Conference, 2013Visually lossless coding is a method through which an image is coded with numerical losses that are not noticeable by visual inspection. Contrary to numerically lossless coding, visually lossless coding can achieve high compression ratios. In general, visually lossless coding is approached from the point of view of the encoder, i.e., as a procedure ...

Spatial-spectral feature analysis in JPEG and JPEG-2000
Proceedings of 2004 International Symposium on Intelligent Multimedia, Video and Speech Processing, 2004., 2005Images are often compressed using algorithms such as JPEG and JPEG-2000. Retrieving these kinds of compressed images typically requires processing them into the uncompressed spatial form in which features are extracted for further analysis. This approach incurs many pre-processing operations, especially for large image archives.
