JPWL — an Extension of JPEG 2000 for Wireless Imaging [PDF]
In this paper, we present an overview of the JPWL standardization activity. JPWL is an extension of JPEG 2000 for the efficient transmission of JPEG 2000 images over an error-prone wireless network. More specifically, JPWL supports a set of tools for error protection and correction, including forward error correcting codes (FEC), unequal error ...

Information and affective valence influence judgments of complexity, liking and understanding
Abstract Visual complexity is a key factor in perceptual and evaluative judgments. People's representation of visual complexity is constructed from quantitative and structural image features, but it is also influenced by familiarity and expertise. We examined how people represent visual complexity and its impact on perception and evaluation, focusing ...

Effects of image compression on face image manipulation detection: A case study on facial retouching
Numerous methods have been introduced to reliably detect digital face image manipulations in the past. Of late, the generalisability of these schemes has been questioned in particular with respect to image post‐processing.

Precompression Quality-Control Algorithm for JPEG 2000 [PDF]
In this paper, a precompression quality-control algorithm is proposed. It can greatly reduce computational power of the embedded block coding (EBC) and memory requirement to buffer bit streams. By using the propagation property and the randomness property of the EBC algorithm, rate and distortion of coding passes is approximately predicted.

The Emerging JPEG-2000 Security (JPSEC) Standard [PDF]
The emergence of digital imaging applications is accelerating the need for security of digital imagery. The emerging international standard ISO/IEC JPEG-2000 security (JPSEC) is designed to provide security for digital imagery, and in particular digital imagery coded with the JPEG-2000 image coding standard. This paper provides an overview of the JPSEC
