Phishing Email Detection Using BERT and RoBERTa

open access: yesComputation
One of the most harmful and deceptive forms of cybercrime is phishing, which targets users with malicious emails and websites. In this paper, we focus on the use of natural language processing (NLP) techniques and transformer models for phishing email ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Naturalistic Decision-Making in Intentional Communities: Insights from Youth, Disabled Persons, and Children on Achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for Equality, Peace, and Justice

open access: yesChallenges
The seventeen UN SDGs address critical global challenges. Among them, Goal 10—reducing inequality—and Goal 16—promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions—serve as foundational pillars in democracies, enabling the achievement of all other goals ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Mapping out a Canadian university’s trauma-informed landscape: A preliminary exploration

open access: yesGlobal Public Health
Adversity and trauma are commonly misunderstood human experiences affecting most individuals across post-secondary campuses. Depending on contextual factors, they can lead to lifelong challenges or growth.

BEST PRACTICES TO ACHIEVING PEACE JUSTICE AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS (SDG 16)

open access: yesEPRA International Journal of Multidisciplinary Research (IJMR), 2022
Low socio-economic development can support the conditions for social violence and conflict, but it is also a consequence of violence and conflict. Through Goal 16, the SDGs recognize the long reaching consequences of conflict and violence for development outcomes.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

U.S. state libraries as strong institutions: Supporting justice for LGBTQ+ patrons?

open access: yesProceedings of the Association for Information Science and Technology, 2020
AbstractOne hundred and ninety‐three countries have ratified the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development outlining 17 goals to promote prosperity of people and the planet in a peaceful and sustainable way. Despite hate crimes and marginalization around the world, LGBTQ+ communities are missing from conceptualization and description of ...
