Hole motion in the Ising antiferromagnet: an application of the recursion method

open access: yes, 1995
We study hole motion in the Ising antiferromagnet using the recursion method. Using the retraceable path approximation we find the hole's Green's function as well as its wavefunction for arbitrary values of $t/J_z$.

Development of Heat Engines Powered by Twisted and Coiled Polymer Fiber Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Continuously rotating engines driven by thermally responsive actuating materials can turn waste heat into useful energy. For the first time heat engines operated by twisted and coiled polymer fiber actuators are demonstrated with engine design guided by two simple analytical models.

AoMYB114 transcription factor regulates anthocyanin biosynthesis in the epidermis of tender asparagus stems

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionAsparagus is a valuable vegetable, and its edible part is a tender stem. The color of the tender stem epidermis is an important trait. In particular, purple asparagus is rich in anthocyanins.

Visualizing a Bosonic Symmetry Protected Topological Phase in an Interacting Fermion Model

open access: yes, 2016
Symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases in free fermion and interacting bosonic systems have been classified, but the physical phenomena of interacting fermionic SPT phases have not been fully explored. Here, employing large-scale quantum Monte Carlo

Micro Elastofluidics for Tuneable Droplet Merging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This technical paper provides a proof of concept of fully flexible and stretchable microfluidic technology for tuneable droplet mixing and merging. The phenomenon is justified through theoretical, numerical and experimental studies. ABSTRACT Droplet microfluidics enables precise handling of discrete fluid volumes at the microscale, with broad ...

The Entanglement in Anisotropic Heisenberg XYZ Chain with inhomogeneous magnetic field

open access: yes, 2006
The thermal entanglement of a two-qubit anisotropic Heisenberg $XYZ$ chain under an inhomogeneous magnetic field b is studied. It is shown that when inhomogeneity is increased to certain value, the entanglement can exhibit a larger revival than that of ...

Photonics of Topological Magnetic Textures

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Localized noncollinear magetic textures imprint their geometry and topology onto traversing photonic fields endowing them with orbital angular‐momentum, chirality, and magnetoelectric densities. Abstract Topological textures in magnetically ordered materials are an important case studies for fundamental research with promising applications in data ...

Impact of cellulase on the surface microstructure of Jingzhu [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Jingzhu (JZ) is a newly cultivated subshrub-like herbaceous plant with a dense cuticle and complex cell walls covering its outer surface (which can affect the efficiency of chemical impregnation in pulping and papermaking processes). Cellulase hydrolyzes

Extreme close approaches in hierarchical triple systems with comparable masses

open access: yes, 2018
We study close approaches in hierarchical triple systems with comparable masses using full N-body simulations, motivated by a recent model for type Ia supernovae involving direct collisions of white dwarfs (WDs). For stable hierarchical systems where the
