Luminosity and surface brightness distribution of K-band galaxies from the UKIDSS Large Area Survey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present luminosity and surface brightness distributions of 40,111 galaxies with K-band photometry from the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS) Large Area Survey (LAS), Data Release 3 and optical photometry from ...

Modified-Segmented Split-Ring Based Polarization and Angle-Insensitive Multi-Band Metamaterial Absorber for X, Ku and K Band Applications

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A novel modified-segmented split-ring based symmetric metamaterial absorber is introduced in this paper for X, Ku, and K band applications. The perfect absorption was achieved with a total of 1.91 GHz absorption bandwidth using the conventional FR4 ...

Star Formation History and Extinction in the central kpc of M82-like Starbursts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We report on the star formation histories and extinction in the central kpc region of a sample of starburst galaxies that have similar far infrared (FIR), 10 micron and K-band luminosities as those of the archetype starburst M82.

K-band f.e.t. amplifiers

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1977
Single-stage f.e.t. amplifiers operating in K-band have been constructed using the Varian VSX 9305 0.5 µm-gate GaAs f.e.t. An amplifier gain of 9±1 dB was obtained over the frequency band 18.5-20.5 GHz and gain of 8±1 dB was observed from 23.0 to 26.0 GHz. An amplifier noise figure of 5.6 dB was measured at 24 GHz.

K-band spectroscopy of pre-cataclysmic variables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aims. There exists now substantial evidence for abundance anomalies in a number of cataclysmic variables (CVs), indicating that the photosphere of the secondary star incorporates thermonuclear processed material. However, the spectral energy distribution

The Stellar Content of Obscured Galactic Giant H II Regions: II. W42 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present near infrared J, H, and K images and K-band spectroscopy in the giant HII region W42. A massive star cluster is revealed; the color-color plot and K-band spectroscopic morphology of two of the brighter objects suggest the presence of young ...

High-efficiency lithium niobate modulator for K band operation

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2020
This paper reports a hybrid silicon nitride–lithium niobate electro-optic Mach–Zehnder-interferometer modulator that demonstrates overall improvements in terms of half-wave voltage, optical insertion loss, extinction ratio, and operational bandwidth. The

The effect of thermally pulsating asymptotic giant branch stars on the evolution of the rest-frame near-infrared galaxy luminosity function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We address the fundamental question of matching the rest-frame K-band luminosity function (LF) of galaxies over the Hubble time using semi-analytic models, after modification of the stellar population modelling.

Derivation of myoepithelial progenitor cells from bipotent mammary stem/progenitor cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
There is increasing evidence that breast and other cancers originate from and are maintained by a small fraction of stem/progenitor cells with self-renewal properties.
