Global contribution of invertebrates to forest litter decomposition

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 27, Issue 4, April 2024.
Invertebrates play important roles in litter decomposition, but the regional pattern of their effects is poorly understood. We found that invertebrate contributions to litter decomposition are 1.4 times higher in tropical and subtropical forests than forests elsewhere, with an overall contribution of 31% to global forest litter decomposition.

THE GENUS KALOTERMES HAGEN IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA (ISOPTERA: KALOTERMITIDAE) [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Entomology, 1978
AbstractA second species of Kalotermes is described from Western Australia, K. aemulus sp. n., and the endemic K. hilli Emerson is redescribed. Although size of the soldier is highly variable in both species and provides no clear discrimination, ratios indicate distinct diagnostic differences particularly in the shape of the mandible.

Speciation of termite gut protists: the role of bacterial symbionts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
At least 12 termite gut protists have been named because of their bacterial symbionts. Dozens more species are diagnosed by epi- and endosymbionts and more still have regular bacterial associations referred to in their species description.

Virus-Like Symptoms in a Termite (Isoptera: Kalotermitidae) Field Colony

open access: yesFlorida Entomologist, 2013
The concept behind the use of biological control agents against termites was based on the assumption that epizootic events can occur naturally in a termite colony. However, no reports ever mentioned the occurrence of epizootic in natural field conditions in any termite species.
