NON-KARST AREAS IN THE KARST AREA OF CROATIA

7th Croatian Geological Congress with international participation: book of abstracts, 2023

Rocky desertification exponential model in Karst area

2012 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2012
It was noticed long time ago that Karst rocky desertification is gradually developed into the third-largest ecological problem. Remote sensing is mostly used in the research of Karst desertification. However, the previous research used original imagery, so it cannot effectively interpret the characteristic of rocky desertification.

Geomorphology and natural hazards in karst areas: A review

Geomorphology, 2011
1. IntroductionSince human beings started to colonise the world, slowly migrat-ing (in multiple directions) from the African Rift and ultimatelyreaching the southernmost territories of the Americas, they haveinteracted with the natural environment, using its resources and suf-fering from its hazardous processes.

Areas Affected by Karst and Pseudokarst

2016
This chapter briefly discusses the presence of karst and pseudokarst in the US and worldwide. Soluble rocks exist at or near the surface over approximately 25 % of the US. If pseudokarst and deep conditions are included up to 75 % of the US may be affected. Similar conditions may exist worldwide.

Groundwater withdrawal impacts in a karst area

Environmental Geology, 1993
During a 3000-gpm pump test on a groundwater supply well in Augusta County, Virginia, residential properties were impacted. The impacts included lowered farm pond water levels, development of a sinkhole, and water level decrease in residential wells.

Review of Groundwater Pollution and Protection in Karst Areas

Water, Air, and Soil Pollution, 1999
Karst groundwater (the water in a karst aquifer) is a major water resource in many regions of some countries. Water requirements for most of the settlements in the karstic regions are supplied from karst aquifers. Karst environments are also used for the disposal of liquid and solid domestic agricultural, and industrial wastes, which result in karst ...

Structural–Geological Mapping of Karst Areas

2020
For understanding geological structure of karst areas (Palmer in Cave geology, Cave Books, Dayton, Ohio, p 454, 2007) it is inevitably to have detailed geological maps.

Multimethod geophysical survey on a karst area

5th EEGS-ES Meeting, 1999
A geophysical survey with several techniques was carried out on a karst area in southern Sardinia (Italy), where a large sinkhole, 15m deep and 18m wide suddenly occurred. The sinkhole was situated at a distance of 50m from a railway and therefore it could represent an impending danger.
