Preparation of Kenaf Bast Fibre Dispersions for Use in Latex Products

Journal of Rubber Research, 2018
The use of kenaf has been extensively explored since its introduction in 1999 by the Malaysian government. However, its lacking application in rubber latex motivates the present study on preparation of kenaf bast fibre dispersions for the latex based industry.

Physicochemical characterization of different treatment sequences on kenaf bast fiber

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2006
Abstract Three different processing sequences for pulping kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) bast fibers were investigated, and the chemical composition (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin content) and physical properties (viscosity, degree of polymerization and crystallinity index) of the extracted pulp were determined.

Kenaf-Unsaturated Polyester Composite: The Effect of Different Retting Process of Kenaf Bast Fiber on the Mechanical Properties

Materials Science Forum, 2015
Kenaf bast fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester composite was produced using kenaf bast fiber based on different retting process. There are two different retting method involved which are water and mechanical retting process. The composites were prepared by using hand lay-up method with different fiber loading (weight %) of 10, 15 and 20%.

Performance characteristics of treated kenaf bast fibre reinforced cement composite

Journal of the Indian Academy of Wood Science, 2016
This study investigated the effect of pretreatment on the properties of kenaf fibre cement boards. Homogenous fibre cement boards were made from kenaf bast fibres, cement and water. The fibres were cut into smaller sizes, mixed with cement and water and formed in rectangular moulds. After demoulding, the boards were cured for 28 days.

Effect of partial delignification of kenaf bast fibers for radiation graft copolymerization

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2012
AbstractMalaysian kenaf bast fiber was treated by acidic chlorite to be applied for a trunk polymer radiation‐induced graft copolymerization. The delignification conditions such as temperature, reaction time, and sodium chlorite (NaClO2) loading were optimized from the viewpoints of density, tensile strength, and reactivity of grafting.

A green degumming approach for lignocellulosic kenaf bast using ethanolamine deep eutectic solvent

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
Traditional chemical degumming methods for lignocellulosic bast fibers pose substantial challenges, especially when dealing with kenaf bast, which has a high lignin content. These challenges include severe pollution and low efficiency, etc. Therefore, this study developed a novel, green, and efficient degumming approach for lignocellulosic kenaf bast ...
