An irradiation-alkaline pretreatment of kenaf core for improving the sugar yield
Renewable Energy, 2015Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) has received considerable attention as a renewable resource because of its fast growth and low lignin content. In the present study, a combination pretreatment of kenaf core using electron beam irradiation (EBI) and dilute alkali was investigated to improve the sugar yield in enzymatic hydrolysis.

Water absorption characteristics of kenaf core to use as animal bedding material
Industrial Crops and Products, 2009Kenaf is grown these days as a minor fibre crop in some Asian countries, but also in the US and recently in Southern European countries such as Italy. The yield of extracted bast fibres is below 1/3 of that of the kenaf stem weight. In the US and Europe a profitable outlet for the remaining woody core is important for economical production of the crop.

Thermal Analysis of Kenaf Sandwich Core Panel
Advanced Materials Research, 2012The thermal stability of kenaf sandwich panel core structures are presented in this paper. Sandwich core structures tested are of varying kenaf percentage being 10, 20 and 30 wt%. The result indicated that all composite have two step degradation processes due to the presence of kenaf in epoxy.
