The CFD Simulation of Tray Dryer Design for Kenaf Core Drying

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
Tray dryer is the most extensively use for kenaf core drying because of its simple and economic design. The product is spread out on trays at an acceptable thickness so that the product can be dried uniformly. Most tray dryers use hot air stream where water is vaporized from the product and removed by air stream.

The Effect of Kenaf Loading on Water Absorption and Impact Properties of Polylactic Acid/ Natural Rubber/ Kenaf Core Powder Biocomposite

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2019
Abstract Polylactic acid (PLA)/natural rubber (NR)/ kenaf core powder (KF) biocomposite was prepared via melt blending in internal mixer followed by hot pressed. The loading of kenaf was varied at five different loadings (0 phr, 5 phr, 10 phr, 15 phr, 20 phr).

Enzyme enhanced solid-state fermentation of kenaf core fiber for storage and pretreatment

Bioresource Technology, 2007
Kenaf is an annual fiber crop adaptable to a wide range of climates and soil types. This study investigated the use of kenaf core fiber as a feedstock for enzyme-enhanced fermentation. Triplicate kenaf core fiber samples were treated with enzymes having cellulase:hemicellulase activity ratios of 0:1, 0.015:1, 0.45:1, and 2.54:1 at a rate of 5010 IU/kg ...

Effects of Kenaf core on properties of poly(lactic acid) bio‐composite

Polymer Composites, 2013
In this study, biodegradable poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/Kenaf core composites with different amount of Kenaf core were prepared using screw extrusion. The Structure, thermal stability, mechanical properties, and biodegradation of bio‐composites are evaluated. FTIR result shows the possible interaction between the Ken core and PLA matrix.

Oil Removal Using Diethyl Ether Extracted and Ground Kenaf Core

Materials Science Forum, 2008
Kenaf core was tested for its ability to sorb diesel oil from the pure diesel oil bath and the diesel oil containing water bath after extracting with diethyl ether to remove wax from fiber surface, grinding to disrupt lumen structure and presoaking in water.

The Effect of Drying Air Temperature and Humidity on the Drying Kinetic of Kenaf Core

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
Drying kinetics of kenaf core was investigated in a Low Temperature and Humidity Chamber Test. The drying experiments were carried out at temperature of 45, 50 and 55°C and air relative humidity of 10, 20 and 30% using a constant air velocity of 1.0 m/s.

Enhanced enzymatic hydrolysis of kenaf core using irradiation and dilute acid

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2017
Abstract This study was performed to determine the effect of electron beam dose and enzymatic hydrolysis time for production of sugar such as glucose and xylose. After kenaf core was exposed to an irradiation dose that ranged from 0 to 500 kGy, the irradiated kenaf core was treated with a 3% (v/v) sulfuric acid solution using an autoclave for 5 h at ...

Mechanical Properties of Kenaf Core Sandwich Panel Toughened with Modified Epoxy

Advanced Materials Research, 2015
Kenaf-core sandwich panels were prepared by hand lay-up method with the optimum characteristics. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of modified epoxy on the mechanical properties of the sandwich panel. Mechanical test such as flexural, drop impact and tensile test were performed to investigate the optimum system of kenaf-core sandwich ...

Morphology of CuO-Doped Activated Carbon from Kenaf Core Fiber

Solid State Phenomena, 2017
Mechanochemical process was conducted to synthesis a series of metal oxide doped biomass carbon source followed by carbothermal reduction which obtained via the reaction between activated carbon (AC) and CuO precursor. Microstructure of single AC and CuO-doped activated carbon was conducted using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM ...

Compostable Soy-Based Polyurethane Foam with Kenaf Core Modifiers

Building waste and disposable packaging are a major component in today's landfills. Most of these are structural or thermally insulative polymer foams that do not degrade over a long period of time. Currently, there is a push to replace these foams with thermoplastic or biodegradable foams that can either be recycled or composted. We propose the use of
