MCF-7 Human Breast Cancer Cells Form Differentiated Microtissues in Scaffold-Free Hydrogels.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Three-dimensional (3D) cultures are increasing in use because of their ability to represent in vivo human physiology when compared to monolayer two-dimensional (2D) cultures.

Cross-talk between microRNA-let7c and transforming growth factor-β2 during epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition of retinal pigment epithelial cells [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2020
AIM: To explore the roles of microRNA-let7c (miR-let7c) and transforming growth factor-β2 (TGF-β2) and cellular signaling during epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of retinal pigment epithelial cells. METHODS: Retinal pigment epithelial (ARPE-19)

Lung Cancer-Associated Keratin 19 Fragments: Development and Biochemical Characterisation of the New Serum Assay Enzymun-Test Cyfra 21–1

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 1994
From a panel of 4 murine monoclonal antibodies directed against keratin 19 various antibody combinations were evaluated in solid-phase enzyme-linked sandwich immunoassays for detection of soluble keratin 19 fragments in patient sera.

Detection of lymph node metastasis in lung cancer patients using a one-step nucleic acid amplification assay: a single-centre prospective study

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2019
Background The use of one-step nucleic acid amplification (OSNA) allows for lymph node (LN) metastasis to be detected rapidly and accurately. We conducted a prospective single-centre clinical trial to evaluate OSNA assay in detecting LN metastasis of ...

Immune Cells Profiles in the Different Sites of COVID-19-Affected Lung Lobes in a Single Patient

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2022
Whereas the COVID-19 disease pathophysiology is under investigation, it is important to identify the pathways of viral transmission and inflammation from the pre-illness to the disease-onset stages.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Identification of a population of epidermal squamous cell carcinoma cells with enhanced potential for tumor formation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Epidermal squamous cell carcinoma is among the most common cancers in humans. These tumors are comprised of phenotypically diverse populations of cells that display varying potential for proliferation and differentiation. An important goal is identifying

Immunohistochemical Demonstration of Keratin 19 Expression in Isolated Human Hair Follicles

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1994
We examined keratins 19 and 8 in extracted human hair follicles using monoclonal antibodies Ks19.1 and CAM5.2, respectively. Ks19.1 reactivity was found in the bulge and infundibulum. Ks19.1(+) cells were dense in the bulge of vellus and intermediate hair follicles. The intact bulge of terminal hair could not be extracted, but the presence of Ks19.1(+)

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Hydrogel‐Based Airway‐on‐Tube With Perfusable Endothelial Lumen and Outward Epithelialization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel‐based airway‐on‐tube platform featuring a perfusable endothelial lumen and outward epithelialization is presented. The system supports primary human bronchial epithelial and lung microvascular endothelial coculture under air‐liquid interface conditions.
