Novel Picornavirus Associated with Avian Keratin Disorder in Alaskan Birds

open access: yesmBio, 2016
Avian keratin disorder (AKD), characterized by debilitating overgrowth of the avian beak, was first documented in black-capped chickadees (Poecile atricapillus) in Alaska.

ANTIFUNGAL EFFECT OF GOLD NANOPARTICLES ON FUNGI ISOLATED FROM ONYCHOMYCOSIS PATIENTS [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Azhar Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2019
Onychomycosis is a widely distributed fungal nail infection which can be caused by dermatophytes, yeasts or non-dermatophytic fungi.  In our study a total of 7 species related to 4 genera were isolated from 50 patients suspected with the fungal nail ...

Long‐Term Human Skin Platform for Modeling Chronic Inflammation, Environmental Stress, and Therapeutic Intervention

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An advanced, long‐term human skin platform maintains native skin structure and key tissue functions for up to four weeks. The platform models chronic inflammation, aging‐related skin changes, and UVB damage, enabling drug and topical interventions—including anti‐inflammatory therapy, senolytic treatment, and sunscreen—to be evaluated in intact human ...

Penile osteosarcoma

open access: yesSurgical and Experimental Pathology, 2023
Introduction Extraskeletal osteosarcoma arising in the penis is exceedingly rare and its major differential diagnosis is sarcomatoid carcinoma. Case presentation A 19-year-old patient noticed a deep nodule in the dorsal side of the penis 2 years before ...

Expression pattern of keratin 14.

open access: yes, 2015
Paraffin-embedded sections of human term placenta are stained with keratin 14 (CK14) along with Vimentin, keratin 19 (CK19), keratin 8 (CK8) and keratin 7 (CK7). Dapi is used to counterstain the nucleus. Representative images of 3 different placentas are

Specific Interaction of the Actin-binding Domain of Dystrophin with Intermediate Filaments Containing Keratin 19 [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology of the Cell, 2005
Cytokeratins 8 and 19 concentrate at costameres of striated muscle and copurify with the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex, perhaps through the interaction of the cytokeratins with the actin-binding domain of dystrophin. We overexpressed dystrophin's actin-binding domain (Dys-ABD), K8 and K19, as well as closely related proteins, in COS-7 cells to assess

Lipid Metabolic Dysregulation Driven by OSMR Mutations Underlies Amyloidogenesis in Primary Localized Cutaneous Amyloidosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
OSMR mutations disrupt STAT5 signaling and AKR1B10‐mediated lipid metabolism, leading to lipid accumulation and protein aggregation in keratinocytes. This metabolic reprogramming drives amyloid deposition in primary localized cutaneous amyloidosis, revealing a mechanistic link between lipid dysregulation and amyloidogenesis.

One-Pot Synthesis of Chicken-Feather-Keratin-Based Prodrug Nanoparticles with High Drug Content for Tumor Intracellular DOX Delivery

open access: yes, 2019
pH/reduction dual-triggered chicken-feather-keratin-based prodrug nanoparticles (C-PK/-SS-Hy-D NPs) were designed via a facile one-pot oxidation coupling reaction between the thiol-functional acid-labile prodrug M-Hy-D and the PEGylated keratin (PK ...

The Tissue-dependent Keratin 19 Gene Transcription Is Regulated by GKLF/KLF4 and Sp1

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2000
Keratins play critical roles in cellular differentiation and cytoskeletal organization. Keratin 19 (K19) is unique because it has been implicated as a marker of stem cells in some tissues, such as the hair follicle in the skin. It is also associated with malignant transformation in esophageal and pancreatic cancers.

Decoding Biomolecular Phase Separation: From Physiological Roles to Pathological Mechanisms and Therapeutic Biomaterials Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review systematically elaborates on the mechanisms underlying physiological regulation and pathological dysregulation of biomolecular phase separation. It also summarizes advances in phase‑separation‑targeted therapeutic strategies and the design of functional biomaterials inspired by this process.
