Identification of a population of epidermal squamous cell carcinoma cells with enhanced potential for tumor formation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Epidermal squamous cell carcinoma is among the most common cancers in humans. These tumors are comprised of phenotypically diverse populations of cells that display varying potential for proliferation and differentiation. An important goal is identifying

Immunohistochemical Demonstration of Keratin 19 Expression in Isolated Human Hair Follicles

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1994
We examined keratins 19 and 8 in extracted human hair follicles using monoclonal antibodies Ks19.1 and CAM5.2, respectively. Ks19.1 reactivity was found in the bulge and infundibulum. Ks19.1(+) cells were dense in the bulge of vellus and intermediate hair follicles. The intact bulge of terminal hair could not be extracted, but the presence of Ks19.1(+)

Influences of Desmin and Keratin 19 on Passive Biomechanical Properties of Mouse Skeletal Muscle [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, 2012
In skeletal muscle fibers, forces must be transmitted between the plasma membrane and the intracellular contractile lattice, and within this lattice between adjacent myofibrils. Based on their prevalence, biomechanical properties and localization, desmin and keratin intermediate filaments (IFs) are likely to participate in structural connectivity and ...

One-pot process: Microwave-assisted keratin extraction and direct electrospinning to obtain keratin-based bioplastic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Poultry feathers are among the most abundant and polluting keratin-rich waste bio-masses. In this work, we developed a one-pot microwave-assisted process for eco-friendly keratin extraction from poultry feathers followed by a direct electrospinning (ES ...

TOLLIP Inhibits Psoriasis Progression via Suppressing PKM2‐Mediated Glycolysis in Keratinocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify TOLLIP as a critical regulator of psoriasis pathogenesis through its modulation of glycolytic metabolism. Our findings establish the TOLLIP‐PKM2‐glycolysis axis as a key mechanism linking metabolic reprogramming to psoriasis pathogenesis, and propose TOLLIP as a promising therapeutic target.

Highly Flexible and Conformable ZnO/FeGa Magnetoelectric Heterostructures for Skin wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The magnetic field‐induced electric field generated by a highly flexile ZnO(piezoelectric)/FeGa(magnetostrictive) magnetoelectric heterostructure embedded in the low Young's modulus elastomer PDMS has been used to stimulate the wound healing processes.

Immunohistochemical demonstration of keratins in the epidermal layers of the Malayan pangolin (Manis javanica), with remarks on the evolution of the integumental scale armour

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2013
Using immunohistochemistry, the study demonstrates the distribution of keratins (pan-keratin with CK1-8, 10, 14-16, 19; keratins CK1, 5, 6, 9, 10; hair keratins AE13, AE14) in the epidermis of the Malayan pangolin (Manis javanica).

Keratin 19 im Verdauungssystem

open access: yes, 2018

Keratin-Graphene Nanocomposite: Transformation of Waste Wool in Electronic Devices

open access: yes, 2019
Electronic devices, designed to be long lasting, are commonly made with rigid, nondegradable materials. These, together with the presence of rare and toxic elements, create significant issues for their waste management.
