Kerr-Nonlinearity of Solids and Graphene
131 pages ; Kerr-nonlinearity or third order nonlinearity chi(3) is ubiquitous in nature and is the focus of this dissertation. In the first part of this work, we study one of the outcomes of Kerr-nonlinearity and beam collapse, which we term as “loss of polarization” for intense beams of elliptical input polarization, that undergo self-focusing when ...

Godunov scheme for Maxwell’s equations with Kerr nonlinearity [PDF]
We study the Godunov scheme for a nonlinear Maxwell model arising in nonlinear optics, the Kerr model. This is a hyperbolic system of conservation laws with some eigenvalues of variable multiplicity, neither genuinely nonlinear nor linearly degenerate. The solution of the Riemann problem for the full-vector 6x6 system is constructed and proved to exist

This work demonstrates a high‐fidelity stability transfer from an optical reference to a high‐repetition‐rate microcomb using a mode‐locked laser bridge. By employing electro‐optic sampling timing detection, femtosecond‐level synchronization and 10−18‐level fractional frequency stability are achieved.

Van der Waals ferroelectric NbOX2 thin films exhibit phonon‐resonance enhanced electro‐optic responses, 332 pm/V at 3.1 THz (NbOI2) and 192 pm/V at 3.7 THz (NbOBr2), the highest among vdW materials, and show 4% non‐resonant SHG modulation together with resonant phonon‐enhancement under a 150 kV/cm THz pump.

Entanglement concentration for arbitrary four-particle linear cluster states
Cluster states, whose model are a remarkably rich structure in measurement-based quantum computation, hold high degree of entanglement, while entanglement is very fragile during the process of transmission because of the inevitable interaction with the ...

Climate change and the growing demand for renewable energy are putting increasing pressure on land, as food production and solar power generation often compete for the same areas. In this study, we assessed which temperate‐region crops are best suited for agrivoltaics, a technology combining farming and solar electricity production on the same land. We

ABSTRACT There is widespread consensus on the threats that plastic waste poses to the environment. A significant obstacle to sustainable development, the trade in plastic waste may contribute to plastic pollution. The objective of this research is to look at how the import and export of plastic waste affect the sustainable development of Regional ...

Linear and nonlinear coupling of light in twin-resonators with Kerr nonlinearity
Nonlinear effects in microresonators are efficient building blocks for all-optical computing and telecom systems. With the latest advances in microfabrication, coupled microresonators are used in a rapidly growing number of applications. In this work, we investigate the coupling between twin-resonators in the presence of Kerr nonlinearity.

Ethnic integration and the value of innovation
Abstract Research Summary Organizations have become increasingly ethnically diverse, and this diversity often brings together distinct technological competencies. Understanding how firms can leverage such diversity to produce valuable innovations therefore becomes essential.
