Predictors of diabetic ketoacidosis in patients with insulin‐deficient diabetes phenotype initiating SGLT2 inhibitors

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims To identify predictors of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in patients with an insulin‐deficient phenotype initiating sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) therapy. Materials and Methods This retrospective cohort study analysed data from 31 900 patients with diabetes aged 18–70 identified as having an insulin‐deficient phenotype ...

Factors affecting bovine ketosis and its association with non-return rate

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 1983
Data on 16406 cows (6025 recorded) from the area of the East & Central Al Society were analysed by least squares procedures. Ketosis incidence was determined from the milk by a commercial keto test reagent by AI technicians in connection with the ...

Ketosis in patients undergoing colonoscopy – more common than we think

open access: yesDiabetes Epidemiology and Management, 2023
Objective: Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are associated with risk of euglycemic ketoacidosis. Guidelines recommend withholding SGLT2i prior to surgery and considering procedure delay in the presence of ketosis. Literature to support

The role of altered immune function during the dry period in promoting the development of subclinical ketosis in early lactation.

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2019
Subclinical ketosis (SCK) may impair white blood cell (WBC) function and thus contribute to the risk of disease postpartum. This preliminary study investigated changes occurring in the immune system before disease onset to elucidate their role in the ...

Association Between Ketosis and Changes in Appetite Markers with Weight Loss Following a Very Low‐Energy Diet

open access: yesObesity, 2020
The purpose of this study was to examine whether the degree of ketosis, measured as plasma β‐hydroxybutyrate (βHB) in fasting, was associated with changes in appetite feelings and plasma concentration of appetite‐related hormones after weight loss.

Status epilepticus in older adults: A critical review

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Older adults (≥60 years of age) have the highest incidence of status epilepticus (SE) among adults and experience the highest morbidity and mortality. SE incidence increases with age in adulthood. A recent study from Austria estimated an incidence of 89.6/100 000 and 67.6/100 000 person‐years adjusted for age and sex in women and men aged >60 ...

Ketosis in the Rat Fetus.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1958
SummaryBlood levels of ketone bodies, glucose, and fats in pregnant rats were altered by fasting and by pancreatectomy. The concentration of ketones and glucose in fetal blood changed with maternal level, whereas the lipids were independent of maternal level. Ketone bodies appear to cross the placenta as rapidly as glucose.
