The Biochemical Lesion in Ketosis

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1961
Much information has come to light in recent years which bears on the problem of why ketone bodies accumulate in the mammalian body under certain conditions. I propose to discuss in this lecture observations which lead to the concept that ketosis is a disorder of the regulation of metabolic processes rather than an insufficiency of certain enzymes or ...

THE TREATMENT OF KETOSIS IN LABOUR

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 1971
SummaryFifty patients who developed ketosis in labour were investigated and five different methods of treatment assessed. The clinical results and biochemical values were compared with those of a group of patients with non‐ketotic labours. It was concluded that few patients with ketonuria in labour are dehydrated, acidaemic or hypoglycaemic.

On the biochemical etiology of ketosis

Life Sciences, 1964
Abstract When a low level of palmitate is added to a rat liver homogenate, more is converted to CO 2 than acetoacetate. However, as the level of palmitate is increased, the maximum capacity of the preferential pathway, namely complete oxidation to CO 2 , is reached and ketogenesis then predominates.
