TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Genistein increases epidermal growth factor receptor signaling and promotes tumor progression in advanced human prostate cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Genistein is an isoflavone found in soy, and its chemo-preventive and -therapeutic effects have been well established from in vitro studies. Recently, however, its therapeutic actions in vivo have been questioned due to contradictory reports from animal ...

Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...

Technical report: Kidney tumor segmentation using a 2D U-Net followed by a statistical post-processing filter [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Each year, there are about 400'000 new cases of kidney cancer worldwide causing around 175'000 deaths. For clinical decision making it is important to understand the morphometry of the tumor, which involves the time-consuming task of delineating tumor and kidney in 3D CT images.

Therapeutic applications of a novel humanized monoclonal antibody targeting chemokine receptor CCR9 in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
C–C chemokine receptor type 9 (CCR9) is an immune checkpoint in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Novel anti‐CCR9 antibody SRB2 was evaluated in combination with cytotoxic chemotherapy in PDAC cells, patient‐derived organoids, patient‐derived xenografts, and humanized mouse models.

Recent developments in kidney cancer [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Urological Association Journal, 2011
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) diagnosis and management haveundergone significant shifts in the recent past. The increasing rateof diagnosis of small renal masses, often in patients at high risk ofmorbidity with operative treatment, has led to studies, trials anddiscoveries in renal mass biopsy, active surveillance and minimallyinvasive thermal ablation ...

Integrative Pan-Cancer Analysis of RNMT: a Potential Prognostic and Immunological Biomarker [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Background: RNA guanine-7 methyltransferase (RNMT) is one of the main regulators of N7-methylguanosine, and the deregulation of RNMT correlated with tumor development and immune metabolism. However, the specific function of RNMT in pan-cancer remains unclear.
