From Green to Brown: Characterization of the Fast Alteration of Modern Greenish Enamels in Glass Windows

open access: yesChemPlusChem, Volume 90, Issue 9, September 2025.
Spots and stains appeared on the modern green enamel from different stained‐glass windows as a consequence of environmental alteration. The multianalytical characterization showed a 3‐step alteration mechanism divided into Pb2+ lixiviation from the enamel, formation of hydrocerussite (2PbCO3·Pb(OH)2), and transformation into scrutinyite (α‐PbO2) and ...

The simple morphology of the sunfish heart

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 6, Page 1034-1041, June 2025.
Jensen and Lauridsen describe the least curved vertebrate heart to date in seven specimens of Ocean sunfish. By comparison to multiple vertebrates, it is concluded that the highly unusual heart is a recent evolution that relates in part to the extraordinary shape of the body.

Lithium‐Phase Identification in an Industrial Lithium‐Ion‐Battery Recycling Slag: Implications for the Recovery of Lithium

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Recycling lithium‐ion batteries by smelting leads to lithium loss in the slag. Industrial battery slag is analyzed using chemical and mineralogical methods, revealing a complex composition with a consistent lithium content of 0.82%. Lithium is primarily found in β‐eucryptite, which contains 5.51% lithium.

Nestling Plumage Colour Variation in a Sexually Dichromatic Hole‐Nesting Passerine Bird—Potential Functions and Mechanisms

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
Selection pressures on animal colouration often lead to sexual dichromatism and gradual colour development, but the role of nestling colouration is understudied. In our study on collared flycatcher nestlings, we found sexual dichromatism and only a small degree of similarity between siblings.

Fire Use During the Last Glacial Maximum: Evidence From the Epigravettian at Korman' 9, Middle Dniester Valley, Ukraine

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 40, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
ABSTRACT The Last Glacial maximum (LGM), spanning from 26.5 to 19 thousand years before present (ka bp), is a period of extreme climatic degradation associated with reduced biomass production and resource stress throughout Eurasia. Arguably, one of the most fundamental tools for human survival during this cold and arid period was the ability to create,

Material Profiling of Mesopotamian Cylinder Seals by Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 56, Issue 3, Page 228-242, March 2025.
Mesopotamian cylinder seals (fourth ‐ first millennium bce) from the collection of Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg were non‐destructively studied by Raman spectroscopy were non‐destructively studied by Raman spectroscopy. The Raman spectral analysis identified the mineral constituents and quantitatively determined the chemical compositions of the

Prediction of Performance Properties of Self‐Compacting Mortar Including Waste Ceramic Aggregates and Rice Husk Ash Using an Adaptive Neuro‐Fuzzy Inference System Approach

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The use of alternative fillers and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) has gained increasing attention to enhance the sustainability of asphalt mixtures. However, the combined incorporation of rice husk ash (RHA) and construction waste (ceramic waste [CW]) in sustainable asphalt composites, particularly together with advanced artificial ...
