Nestling Plumage Colour Variation in a Sexually Dichromatic Hole‐Nesting Passerine Bird—Potential Functions and Mechanisms

Selection pressures on animal colouration often lead to sexual dichromatism and gradual colour development, but the role of nestling colouration is understudied. In our study on collared flycatcher nestlings, we found sexual dichromatism and only a small degree of similarity between siblings.
