Criteria for kinking out of interface crack

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1994
Abstract Three kinds of criteria for kinking out of the interface crack between dissimilar materials are discussed. Their validity and applicability are examined by comparison with the experimental results from two types of specimens. As the results G max criterion based on energy release rate shows best prediction on both the kink initiation ...

Dynamic kinking of a crack in plane strain

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1983
Abstract The kinking of an initially stationary crack in a linear elastic body due to dynamic loading is solved using linear superposition to construct dual singular integral equations, which are solved numerically. The results for stress wave loading as well as loading on the crack faces only are presented, with an estimated accuracy of better than ...

Initiation, Propagation, and Kinking of an In-Plane Crack

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1988
Consider an infinite linear elastic body containing a semi-infinite crack loaded by a longitudinal stress pulse parallel to the crack face. After the stress wave strikes the crack at time t = 0, the stress gradually intensifies at the crack tip. At some finite delay time tt, the crack begins to extend straight ahead with constant speed vo.

Kinked cracks in anisotropic elastic materials

International Journal of Fracture, 1998
The problem of a kinked crack is analysed for the most general case of elastic anisotropy. The kinked crack is modelled by means of continuous distributions of dislocations which are assumed to be singular both at the crack tips and at the kink vertex. The resulting system of singular integral equations is solved numerically using Chebyshev polynomials

A bifurcation study of crack initiation and kinking

The European Physical Journal B, 2013
Based on a two-dimensional atomistic model, we study the bifurcation associated with crack propagation and kinking. In the study, the varying parameter is the tensile and shear strain applied at the boundary. Both mode-I and mixed mode-I/II loading are considered.

On singular integral equations for kinked cracks

International Journal of Fracture, 1986
Chebyshev polynomial techniques for solution of singular integral equations leading to square root singularities at the ends of the interval of integration are studied. It is shown that the results are less accurate when a singularity, albeit a weak one, appears between the interval ends. Typical examples are problems involving kinked cracks.
