Klebsiella

Infection Control, 1984
Belonging to the tribe Klebsielleae found in the family Enterobacteriaceae, the genus Klebsiella is the second most populous enteric genus found in the gastrointestinal tract of man. The genus Klebsiella is named after the late nineteenth century German microbiologist, Edwin Klebs, but the Klebsiella bacillus was for many years referred to as the ...

Hemagglutinins of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca

Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, Mikrobiologie und Hygiene. 1. Abt. Originale. A, Medizinische Mikrobiologie, Infektionskrankheiten und Parasitologie, 1983
The occurrence and characteristics of hemagglutinins were investigated in 310 Klebsiella strains (195 K. pneumoniae- and 115 K. oxytoca-strains). Mannose-sensitive (MS)-hemagglutinins as well as Mannose-resistant (MR/K)-hemagglutinins could be demonstrated, only 13 Klebsiella-strains were not able to hemagglutinate.

Method for differentiating Klebsiella planticola and Klebsiella terrigena from other Klebsiella species

Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 1994
Conventional methods usually fail to identify Klebsiella planticola and Klebsiella terrigena, which represent up to 19% of clinical Klebsiella isolates. By combining four carbon substrate assimilation tests and two conventional tests, the method identified these species with a specificity and a sensitivity of 100%.

Transduction in Klebsiella

Nature, 1969
PHAGE-MEDIATED transduction has been reported in strains of four genera of Enterobacteriaceae: Salmonella, Escherichia, Shigella, and Proteus1. Clarke2 described possible transduction of a single Klebsiella pneumoniae auxotroph to prototrophy, but this has not been confirmed.

Klebsiella ozaenae Cholecystitis

The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 2011
The authors report a case of Klebsiella ozaenae septicemia, cholecystitis and urinary tract infection in a 65-year-old morbidly obese woman with diabetes. Klebsiella ozaenae is considered a nonpathogen or colonizer rarely causing septicemia. This is the first reported case of cholecystitis due to this agent.

Klebsiella

1977
Klebsiella pneumoniae is well distributed in the environment and found to be associated primarily with wastes high in organic matter and human activity. K. pneumoniae is a serious opportunistic pathogen of increasing concern in hospitals, where precolonization seems to be a prerequisite to infection.
